Unfortunately I haven’t seen anything official coming out of of the console manufacturers yet but I have always trusted VGChartz and they are yet to let me down so let’s see what they have to say.
According to them the biggest winner this holiday season has once again been the Nintendo Wii but I don’t think anyone doubted that. For the week ending on the 20th of December it is estimated that Nintendo managed to sell a whopping 1 873 446 units taking their worldwide sales over the 43 million mark.
The only thing beating the Wii in that week was the Nintendo DS which moved an incredible 2 190 483 units.
Coming in a distant third was the Xbox 360 with 931 999 units but the obvious story is that Sony was propping up the charts with all three of it’s current consoles.
The PSP is leading the Sony race with 678 274 units and next up is the PS3 with 524 368 followed by the ancient PS2 with 356 210 units sold.
In better news the PS3’s flagship title, LittleBigPlanet, has moved past the million mark and is now sitting on 1 523 602. However it is languishing in 22nd spot on the charts and what makes that worse for Sony is that is the PS3’s second highest selling title in the week.
As a last note, it is very sad to see that Far Cry 2 on the 360 still hasn’t broken that million mark and needs an extra 60k units to push it over, so if you haven’t picked up a copy yet then help us out and go and buy one. We loved the game and the Far Cry 2 team and would love to see it make it over that magical mark.
