Pre-purchase Civilization and get Exoplanets

Civ BE

I already told you how awesome Civilization: Beyond Earth looked in the Gamescom presentation. Now they’ve released some pre-purchase bonuses that are based on real-world exoplanets.

Over on Steam, players can already purchase Civilization: Beyond Earth and get the following planets in the Exoplanets Map Pack:

  • Kepler 186f: This lush forest planet is one of the oldest known Earth-like planets.
  • Rigil Khantoris Bb: Orbiting the closest star to the solar system, the historical records of this arid continental planet’s settlement are well-preserved.
  • Tau Ceti d: This planet of seas and archipelagos features a booming biodiversity and a wealth of resources.
  • Mu Arae f: Tidally locked in orbit around a weak star, the southern hemisphere of this planet is a blistering desert where the sun never sets, while the northern hemisphere is perpetually in frozen darkness.
  • 82 Eridani e: An alien world of scarce water and wracked by tectonic forces.
  • Eta Vulpeculae b: A mysterious new discovery with unknown terrain.

I’m not usually a fan of Map Packs – they don’t really seem to add too much to gameplay for me. That said, I already plan to purchase the game, so why not grab some extra stuff while I’m at it? I like things that reward me for doing what I was planning to do anyway. Plus, this should counteract some of the tendencies to wait until a Steam sale to pick up this game. Not that there’s anything wrong with waiting for a sale, but wow I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. I’m looking forward to losing many days completely absorbed as I just do one more turn.

I want them to make the Alpha Centauri map available only if you have Alpha Centauri installed.

    • Kromas of City17

Yay … someone else who loves Alpha Centauri!

Everybody loves AC, all other civ games pale in comparison 😛 but the series has finally gone full circle and we’re getting back to the good stuff.

I see Kalahari has it on pre-order for R499 – don’t know whether it includes the exo planets though…but I am seriously looking forward to this game!

  • Lydon McG

Thanks for the heads up! Will grab it now!

Question – what is the purpose of this pre-order bonuses? I always see them advertised on websites if I pre-order…so I do…and then when it comes out EVERYONE can get them anyway cos they come standard in the box? Anyone?

    • Kensei Seraph

It’s to encourage people to buy the game when it comes out rather than waiting for it to go on sale at a heavily discounted price.
The pre-order bonuses are only supposed to be available for the people who pre-order but often someone realizes that if they sell them as a DLC extra the people who didn’t pre-order will still buy it.

Sorry I wasn’t too clear (typing too fast). I meant that I see offers like “Pre-order now and get the Special Bla-Bla-Ra-Ra Edition with extra missions”. But then it turns out that every copy of the game is the Special Bla-Bla-Ra-Ra Edition with extra missions. (Apart from future DLC).

        • Kensei Seraph

Well I know that in some regions the Special Bla-Bla-Ra-Ra Edition is the only version they bother selling (Shogun 2 only had the Special Edition in SA)

          • M

Aaah……I see. (Yup, that’s one of the games I talking about)

  • Sk3tz0

I pre-order it via BT Games about a month back. I’m wondering if that will get the map pack aswell.. ??
