I’ll have to admit that while I used to be one of the biggest Quake fans on the planet it’s been a very long time since I last played the game and while Quake Live has thrived over the years I haven’t been partaking in it.
Well that’s all about to change as Quake Live has just released a brand new standalone client that is currently being installed on my work machine and therefore you may not see me posting much in the near future.
If you want to join me in this trip down memory lane and see if you still have what it takes to play a real first person shooter then simply head on over to http://www.quakelive.com/ and download the standalone client.
One of the very best parts about Quake is that the minimum requirements are very low so virtually all machines can play it. Hell, some clever clogs has probably gotten this working on a fancy calculator.
Minimum Requirements
Operating System: Windows XP or later
Computer Processor: 800 MHz Pentium III or Athlon, or better
Screen Resolution: 1024×600
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX or better, ATI Radeon 8500 or better, Intel i915 chipset or better
Internet Connection: ISDN or IDSL Narrowband Cable
Want a reminder of how quick Quake is? Then take a look at this video with low resolution graphics and pure chaos

So who’s up for joining me for some retro gaming this holiday season?

I spent so many hours playing Quake death matches with my friends. I’d hate to see how much I suck at it now. The good old days of packing up your PC & actually carrying somewhere else lol.

True, especially when you bring your whole PC & forget the cable.

Didn’t realise Quake was still around. Spent so much time in games like these.
Was thinking what it would be like if someone did a Doom or Quake type game with the old style but with modern graphics. Wonder if it would be fun or boring.

The first Painkiller was very much like that, it was a lot of fun. Haven’t played the others. They’ve also released a new Shadow Warrior & Rise of the Triad that I’m keen to play.

Ok cool, that was another cool game ROTT. Will check those out thanks.
While not like the original Dooms I am keenly waiting for Doom 4.

Been playing Quake 3 for about 14 years now, with about a 3 month break being the longest 😛
Forget deathmatch, come join us on the Clan Arena servers, there are still quite a few people playing after work.
