I would say that it was bound to happen, but nothing is ever guaranteed in this industry. Games get remastered that we never asked for, while other titles remain forever locked away, only to be accessed by nostalgia. Fans have been asking for a Resident Evil 2 remake for a long time, and it appears to now be a real thing.
Announced over on the Resident Evil Facebook page, Capcom’s producer for the title even made this sweet video:
I’m happy to hear about the project – Resident Evil 2 was one of my favourite and formative gaming experiences. It taught me so much about what I enjoy in a game, and I’m so excited to experience it again in full HD glory (with some modernized controls so that I don’t throw my controller at my TV). What makes me particularly pleased about this remake is that it marks yet another occasion when a studio actually listened to the fans:
It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved. The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans’ passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want.
So well done to all the loyal fans who helped make this happen. Now, if only we could channel the fandom from one franchise to another so that all my favorite titles from years gone by could be remastered or revived. Next up, can we all channel some love at Suikoden so that I can get a new one? It would make me so happy guys, and don’t you want me to be happy? Also, Beyond Good and Evil 2. The power of positive thinking fan rage on the internet!
