Sunset Overdrive is extremely self-aware. This is a game that knows it is a game, and it continuously reminds you that nothing is being taken seriously. So it’s really no surprise then that in the week leading up to release, Sunset Overdrive features a little message those those who have their hands on it early. People like us.
Right now the only people playing Sunset Overdrive are reviewers and a few lucky Twitch streamers. So it seems fitting that the very first episode of Sunset TV inside of the game addresses us directly. Aside from a few handy movement tips, Sunset TV’s debut also let’s reviewers know what bad writing is.
“Look I’m not trying to sway your review score either way. I mean your opinion is your opinion. But I advise you not to use the phrase ‘Sunset Overhype’ because that’s just lazy writing!”
Well, that’s certainly a first for me. Having a game tell me what not to write as a headline is certainly…different. Sunset TV in-game will be a continuation of the weekly series that has been all over YouTube this year. Each episode will introduce the week’s player challenges, as well as community challenges every two weeks.
It’s a clever way for players to feel connected to the developers of the game they’re enjoying, even if you only get to stare at Brandon Winfrey’s face most of the time. Most of the time the humor manages to hold up as well, but I have a feeling content will eventually start to wear thin. Right now though, it’s a healthy pinch of fourth wall breaking content that put a smile on my face.
Sunset Overdrive launches exclusively on Xbox One next week. You can expect our review then too.

This will be my first non digital purchase in SA for Xbox One! The first of many I suspect, games are getting too large for Telkom to handle….. Then just to deal with those updates…????
