The rAge expo has been around for quite a number of years now. It’s an event that most gamers look forward to, because they not only get to see some of the latest gaming titles and hardware (and awesome cosplay), but they also get to interact with like-minded people and partake in all sorts of workshops over the weekend. rAge isn’t the only large scale gaming event on the African calendar though. Nigeria will be hosting the West African Gaming Expo 2014.
The event will be the first of its kind to happen in the region. It will offer visitors the opportunity to play some of the biggest console, PC, mobile, and arcade games.
There will also be a developer conference, where attendees can partake in not only tutorials, but also interact with some of the leading game designers. These designers will not only be there to assist and educate any potential developers, but they will also discuss the latest trends and how to get the most out of the software attendees may be using. There will also be tournaments, indie games, a retro zone, and much more.
Being South African, I like to be biased and think we are the centre of the continent, but this is not true at all. Nigeria has a bigger economy, and the potential for the gaming industry in the region is massive. This expo may be the first of its kind, but if all goes well, it will become an annual event that draws in more people each year.
The event is scheduled for the 28th to the 30th of August, and will be held at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos. If you’d like to register or find out more, that can all be done on the expo’s website
