Those of you eagerly awaiting next week’s  release of DiRT 3 might have something coming along this week to help you stop counting down the days. Sega is releasing Sega Rally Online, a downloadable arcade rally game inspired by classics Sega Rally Revo and Sega Rally 3.

It releases on XBLA on Wednesday (and quite possibly on PSN, although that might be delayed due to delayed certification) for the ridiculously low price of 800 MS monkeybucks.

“We’ve blended our hit arcade racing series with the best elements from the console versions to bring our fans the SEGA Rally experience in compact, downloadable format,” said Haruki Satomi, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA. “Whether they’re new to the SEGA Rally series or they’ve participated in countless races over the years, we’re confident everyone will enjoy the wide variety of features included in this fan favourite.”

The original Sega Rally is still considered as one of the best console games of all time, and was designed by Lumines, Rez and Child of Eden visionary Tetusya Mizuguchi.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
