You may have heard about Sonic Boom being made by third party studio ‘Big Red button’. But did you know that the original Sonic team at Sega is working on a Sonic game?
The head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka confirmed to 4gamer of Japan that they would be working on another Sonic game separate to Sonic Boom, promising to go back to the classic roots of the franchise.
“At the moment, the core Sonic team at SEGA is working on a new title that will use the traditional look and mechanics of the series, which will get more details later during the year.”
It’s unknown what platforms it will be released on, but perhaps we will get the Sonic game that everyone wanted for so long. Unfortunately, that’s all we know about it for now, so now all we can do is wait until more information comes through.
I’ve got to say, I feel bad for Sonic fans. There have been so many missteps in this franchise, and that’s not even including the abysmal Sonic game from 2006. Perhaps this return to form will be just what the doctor ordered, or maybe it won’t be.
I just hope it isn’t just called ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ and is a prequel to a sequel of a remake. I’m already chronologically confused about the Legend of Zelda, especially the more recent ones. I hope this doesn’t fall into cheap HD remake territory. Are you a fan of Sonic? Have you lost all hope? Let us know in the comments!
