Sony not so live blog – Part 3

Sony Keynote
So let’s get into the last part of that massive Sony keynote now.

When we left off we had just finished seeing Tiger Woods with the Move and now we are hearing about the exclusive content that will only be available on the PS3.

We get to see some footage of the upcoming Medal of Honor (hands on review coming later today) which looks a lot like Modern Warfare 2. You will be able to see a bunch of new video’s at www.medalofhonor.com on the 28th of June.

Medal of Honor will also be exclusively receiving the original Medal of Honor fully playable as separate game on the exact same Blu-Ray. But when we are talking about exclusives then we can’t go passed Dead Space 2 which will also come bundled with the original Dead Space on the same Blu-ray disc for the same price.

Next up, the biggest surprise of the expo so far, Gabe Newell strides onto the stage, this is the man who has vocally slammed the PS3 at every chance he gets. He tells us he just met the VP of Sharpening things backstage (Kevin Butler). He goes on to tell us that Portal 2 is coming to the PSN on it’s release and that it will be the best version of Portal 2.

He quickly mentions that Steam is coming to the PSN but we aren’t told how or why or much more actually. The hope around here is that it will be a full functional Steam similar to the one that was just released on Mac which would bring with it a huge back catalogue of titles for PS3 owners.

We then get treated to a mini video of Final Fantasy XIV and Mafia 2. Mafia 2 will have exclusive first day DLC for the PS3. Then we watch an awesome Assassin’s Creed 2 Brotherhood trailer and are again being told that it will have an exclusive mission pack for the PS3 version of the game. We are hearing exclusive a lot today and it seems to be Sony’s major driver this year.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is being released on the 16th of November and the multiplayer appears to be set in a small Italian town where you are left to wander around and take out other assassin’s.

Here comes a GT5 montage where we see Sebastian Vettel, Adrian Newey and some more Formula 1 backshots… noting mentioned about F1 at all though. It’s coming on the 2nd of November and will be fully 3D enabled on release.

Next up on the exclusive chopping board is Infamous 2, the footage is amazing and it looks like our anti-hero now has ice powers on hand to help him save the city from a huge mutant plant worm thing that rips through the floor.

Then we see two cabbies talking about gaming, they chat about racing games for a bit and then one chucks his huge cigar on the floor… they may have been talking about racing but instantly I start thinking about Duke Nukem and hoping that Sony are about to pull the biggest surprise of the decade… unfortunately not but fortunately it’s just as awesome.

Twisted metal is coming back and will include 16 player online play with 4 player splitscreen localised gaming. They are also adding flying into this version and we see a quick deathmatch where you need to capture the opposite teams leader and sacrifice him to your missile launcher…

It looks like a whole lot of fun and I am hoping to get some hands on time some time during this show.

That’s it, we are all done now and time to head on over to E3 for the real work.

Who had the best press conference of the entire show? My money’s on Sony right now but we’ll put up a full post about awards after the show is done and we have had time to compare notes.

Oi! MOH was an awesome game, and it will be good to see how far it has actually progressed.
To be fair I can’t see too many people playing through the whole game again. Maybe give the beach landing a spin, for old times sake.

So you get the new Medal of Honour, as well as the original Medal Honour (Allied Assault?) in one neat package. That is brilliant.

    It’s still in pre-Alpha.

Are you kidding me? Medal of Honour was amazing on the PSone, and before EA lost the plot with the franchise.

I enjoyed Infamous 1, the ending was a little comic book cliché, but I suppose that’s why I loved it so much. I can’t wait for Infamous 2.

Each to his own. Call of Duty may have copied their idea at the beginning but it was always better in my book.

Aaah remember the old Quake 3 engine that these games were built on.

Infinity Ward was formed from the guys from 2015inc who were responsible for Medal of Honour Allied Assault. The first Call of Duty was in manner ways a spiritual sequel to it. In any case, any discussion about who copied who in games development is rather retarded. Even Hideo Kojima is open about getting inspiration for Metal Gear Solid from James Bond movies.

Having said that Modern Warfare 2 still sucks ass.

LOL. I was a wee lad when MOH 1 was released. I did play it but not as much as COD 1.

The last COD I played was 2. The others after that showed no appeal to me unlike Brothers In Arms.

The new MOH looks like it’s going to rock COD. And that game I am highly interested in :w00t:

Now you’re making me feel like an old man :P, but yeah it was a classic on the PSOne and I’d be eager to play a spruced up version of it on the PS3.

Other games I wish developers would remake for PS3 are Colony Wars, G-police and the awesome Soulreaver games. Some of those classic dreamcast games would be awesome too. 🙁
