Sony steals Ghostbusters from Atari – PS3 fans rejoice

In a move that has taken most people by surprise, Sony has swooped in and picked up the publishing rights for Ghostbusters from Atari and will now only be publishing the game on the PS3 and PS2 just in time for the release of the new Ghostbusters movie.

Thereafter they will also hold an exclusivity period until the PSP’s version is released a couple of months later.

At the time of writing no one really knows what is going to happen with the Xbox 360 or Wii versions but if the rumours are to be believed then Atari will be publishing these versions a little later down the road.

Personally I feel it’s a master stroke by Sony as the ghostbusters brand holds a special place in many people’s hearts and they are now well placed for some great marketing opportunities.

I’ve got some words that would not be appropriate for
this site. Oh well. A couple of bucks saved then.

I think that a move like this makes Sony look bad. It’s one thing to lose an exclusive and have it become multiplatform, but to swoop in and take it away from the Wii and 360 is not going to do them any favours.

Sure they will possibly release it later on the other platforms, but take it away from gamers right before it is set to release is only going to get people angry. If the game tanks then it will be even worse for them.

Especially since most shops have the release dates
set out already for all platforms.

i’m not a fan of exclusives, but making gamers/people angry?
    thats utter nonsense!
ms would’ve done exactly the same thing had they thought of it, its business. sony, i feel, have probably done themselves a small favour and should boost console sales marginally.

anyway, the game is most likely gonna suck.
    time will tell.

Don’t get me wrong. From a business point of view
    I think it’s freaking brilliant, but from a gamer’s
perspective i’m more than a little miffed.

    i agree.
but the ps3 boys had to wait a year or so for bioshock, so maybe its better having timed exclusives than having full on exclusives like gears and killzone.

I don’t see the point in games like Velvet Assassin, Race Pro and now Ghostbusters going exclusive. It’s not like the exclusivity Gears of War or Killzone

Exactly, it’s not some crazy-big title that they have just taken over, that’s why I think that it’s going to hurt them, because it may come across as petty.

I’ve been really looking forward to this game, sorry for the 360 and Wii owners out there but that’s life i guess. It’s a great move by Sony but just one thing; the timed exclusivity is for EUROPE only.

The difference is that Bioshock was an
exclusive from the start and then later
    went multiplatform.It wasn’t scheduled for
release with release dates on all platforms
and then suddenly ripped from under everyone’s arses 😉

    I agree that it’s not a big title,but it’s a realy
big brand. Especially with the release of the Blu-Ray
movies coming up and talks of a brand new movie in
    the pipeline as well.

Why all the Sony hate? It is the first time they did it this generation, while MS has been at it since the release of the 360. I guess it must suck for you 360 fanboys to have the same sh!t thrown in your face.

Luckily, I own both consoles, and I’ll be picking up this game since I’m a huge fan of the movies.

Well good for sony… I guess the only way to get the people to play games on their console is to bndle the Blu ray with a game after all

When has MS made a title a timed exclusive a month before it’s due to be released? – I’ve already pre-ordered the game, now I’m gonna have to get a refund.

Actually the PS3 and PS2 should come out on the 19th of June in line with Ghost Busters 20th Anniversary as far as I know the Ghost Busters III movie isnt planned any time soon for release?

Other formats will come out later but all in all I dont feel its a good move as it was originally planned for all formats to be released at the same time. By the the time other formats release Ghost Busters is going to be old News.
