Sony unveils PlayTV

1 min read

Sony has declared its intentions of taking over your living room with the announcement of Play TV.

In the word of David Reeves himself

The introduction of PlayTV really will extend the already broad entertainment credentials of PS3, and makes it an exceptionally attractive proposition for the whole family

To take full advantage of PlayTV you are going to need to buy an accessory that plugs into the back of your PS3 which will enable it to tune into DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial) signals. Transforming your PS3 into a PVR on steroids.

It not only gives you the normal PVR functionality of recording, fast forwarding and all that but it also comes with dual HD 1080p tuners. As well as connecting to the EPG and the really cool thing it does is allow you to stream live TV to your PSP… Why would you want to stream live TV to your PSP? I have absolutely no idea but you can bet your life on the fact that I really want to now 🙂

Scheduled for release in early 2008 for the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany with the other PAL territories being added in due course…

We are already running Digital Terrestrial TV trials here in SA and I am now hoping that the guys who knows what he is talking about will comment and confirm that we are using DVB-T in our trials….

Don’t forget to the check out the video explaining how PlayTV works

So place your bets on how long it will take Microsoft to retaliate

Thanks to Darryn for sending this in…

“the really cool thing it does is allow you to stream live TV to your PSPWhy would you want to stream live TV to your PSP?”

Well, what if the next season of Smallville is on and you need to SERIOUSLY go to the loo for a number 2?

    Well, now you can:
    a) Pause it and carry on later or
b)The wife doesn’t want to pause since it’s such a hectic episode, so you take your psp with so as to not miss anything! 😛
