Star Citizen: Space’s most popular ship

Aurora

I love how Star Citizen’s fleets of ships are being introduced; through a series of in-game commercials, where buying the latest in inter-stellar travel in the future is akin to buying a car today. Only with less chance of people at traffic lights squirting dirty, watered-down Sunlight soap all over your windscreen. And this, the 2944 Aurora is space’s most popular spaceship – and it comes with a ton of options. Including, quite probably, leather seats.

“For 2944 we are proud to introduce an all new model, the Legionnaire; Built for combat, designed for efficiency,” says Roberts Space Industries. “The Aurora has graced Ship and Pilot’s prestigious top ten list for a record breaking 63 years.”

Star Citizen is the most crowd-funded game in the history of game crowd-funding, and has reeled in $22 million of your money already. If everything goes to plan, we’ll be playing the game as early as next year..even though we still don’t really know what we’ll be doing in said game. We do, however, know that it has some pretty nice ships.

It’s two things – a SP game like Wing Commander (which can also be played co-op) & an open online persistent universe like Freespace/Privateer (which can also be played offline on a private server).

Wouldn’t it be funny if they went bankrupt halfway through? The most crowd-funded game ever to never happen. Imagine all that money wasted.

It wont happen, Chris Roberts is one of the most respected game developers in the history of gaming. Everyone backs him because they have that much confidence in his ability to deliver as he has done something of this scale already in Privateer.

      Everyone is very excited …

Which is why I am postulating the above situation. My use of the word “imagine” and phrase “wouldn’t it be funny if” should have given you the indication that it was a theoretical situation. I didn’t say it was likely.

Yes I did. Not as much as others though – some people have dropped over $10k into it – that’s crazy. One guy has in the region of 50 ships lol.

Wish you could board other’s ships and just steal them.

            October 14, 2013 at 11:07

That would be as much of a troll to high backers as the game failing. Only this would only affect those who’s ships were stolen.

          • Fair usage John

            October 14, 2013 at 11:08

But you’ll need to spend money to have good enough equipment to board the ship and failing costs you yours….
            – I have no idea where I’m going with this btw.

Your ship can be boarded, but it’s supposed to be a rare occurrence. Then an FPS component kicks in – they’re using Cryengine for the game. And you can take out in-game insurance on your ships – so if it does get lost, it can be replaced.

I’m also damned glad to hear there will be an offline mode for this. Looking forward to it.

I dropped a fairly hefty chunk of cash on Elite: Dangerous, in addition to what I chipped in for SC. They both look stunning though, & stylistically different enough to justify getting both.

Absolutely, though I wasn’t sold on Elite until after I saw the capital ship battle video. But I think they are both worth at least getting a starter pack for them.

With SC I was lucky to invest while LTI was still available; but with the Nov 26 deadline for further LTI ships fast approaching, I’ll admit that the urge to get more LTI ships is very, very hard to resist.

Well, you can still insure whatever ships you acquire in-game if they don’t come with LTI, it’ll just cost you credits or whatever. And what’s an MMO / sandbox game without a little resource farming 🙂

I can’t really remember with any degree of confidence offhand, but I seem to recall there also being mention of being able to buy LTI in game, and it not just being a veteran backer perk?

            October 14, 2013 at 18:23

As far as I know, the LTI is only for those who back before end June 2013. But if they include it in game, it will likely be wicked expensive.

I really, *really*, need to stop watching the videos & so on that’ve been released for this game.

I’ve already dropped like R650 on it, and every time they bring out another awesome video showcasing a new ship, I have to work *very* hard to convince myself that I can’t really afford to spend more on it, and that I can always get that new ship by just, you know, *playing* the game when it’s released.

But oh man, the Constellation & the Idris look so sweet and tempting………. 🙁

The 300i hit the sweet-spot for me in terms of bang-for-buck, & is one sexeh looking piece of hardware. I’m hoping it won’t take me too long to parley that into something a little meatier though, such as a Connie.

For now I’m not planning on going the piracy route though – the exploration aspect appeals most right now – so it may take me just a teeny bit longer than I’d like :/

I have the 325a myself. The 300i series is definitely one of the better looking ships I have ever seen.

But that Retaliator is too sweet not to eventually get one for myself in game as well.
