StarCraft II Lan Petition Hits 100K Signatures

Online petitions are a wonderful thing; They have proven themselves to be just about as useful as schooner made out of sponge, but continue to be used as a sort of passive online resistance against just about anything. They’re just about the easiest way for people to get their voices completely ignored. When Blizzard confirmed that there would be no LAN play in StarCraft II the inevitable petition made the news.

(PS, there’s a lovely new Starcraft II trailer after the jump)

I’m glad to report that over a hundred thousand sensible people strongly disagree with Blizzard’s decision and defense that the move was to “ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy.” Somehow though, I don’t think this particular petition milestone is going to make one iota’s difference, considering the money Activision-Blizzard have spent revamping battle.net and the millions of people who’ll buy it regardless.

Strangely, I’m not as upset about the lack of LAN as I should be; I’ve grown accustomed to not having to leave my house to play multiplayer games. What does have me slightly irked though is that the single player campaign is being stretched over 3 full-priced retail releases.

LAN gaming seems to be dying a slow and painful death..There are very few decent games out there these days which actually support LAN. What a pity, online games dont come close to the late night, junk food, booozed up experience of just sitting down, talking poo, and playing LAN games with friends.

Thats awesome trailer indeed! About SC2 petition, I think even it hits 1 million, Blizzard will not be convince to release LAN-supported starcraft considering the money they spent on this game. :pouty: I do hope also that there will someone releases a SC2 LAN crack or something.
