Multiplayer quickly became one of the largest and most important elements of modern video gaming thanks to quick and simple online connectivity.
Thanks to some highly addictive multiplayer, gamers around the world have found hours, days, weeks, months and even years of fun and fantastic gameplay within single game purchases which range over multiple genres and platforms.
Here are the nominees for best multiplayer:
Red Dead Redemption
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Halo Reach
Starcraft 2
And the award goes to:
Winner: Battlefield: Bad Company 2
DICE and the Battlefield franchise are, as we all know, no strangers to multiplayer and with Bad Company 2 they proved it once more. One of the most significant achievements in Bad Company 2 was the completely refreshing points system that allowed gamers to finally be rewarded for doing their job and playing like a team.
Bad Company 2 allows medics to be medics, and make lots of points for it as well as dish out stacks of points for guys topping up peoples ammo. Gone are the days where a scout was just a nice name for a sniper because in Bad Company 2 you can rack up the majority of your points from picking a great lookout point and marking targets for your team mates.
Take this great new system, add massive battles, tons of weapons, vehicles and gadgets as well as destructible architecture and a large assortment of modes and you have a clear winner.
Bad Company 2 was the one game that kept us coming back and hold the most fond multiplayer memories throughout 2010. It allowed for a large range of gamers to enjoy it thanks to its heavy focus on team play and support rather than only their skills with a firearm.
Runner-Up: Starcraft 2

3rd Place – Red Dead Redemption.
The reason is that Red Dead made MP fun again with friends. You could fight each other, help in quests and just plain talk smack for 8 hours and not get bored.
The screams I heard from people playing running into cougars and bears was priceless.

So it seems like I’m going to regret the fact that I decided to wait for Black Ops instead of getting Bad Company 2!

They each have their own strengths for sure, but if I could only have one it would definitely be Bad Company 2, there is just so much variety packed into a single game.

I still haven’t played the co-op stuff! The free roam MP was so much fun, even just doing the hunting challenges together

Very hard decision to make.
I agree that Bad Company 2 should win, its who I would have chosen for a number of reasons!

Can’t say that I’ve played any of the other games on the list (Multiplayer) before, so I can only really comment on Halo: Reach. Very intense and fun, I recommend it to anyone.

Only one I have played mp is RDR, was mad fun. For some reason though, every time I played that game I had the “look at my horse, my horse is amazing” song stuck in my head 😀

I would have like to have seen Assassins Creed Brotherhood on there. Most MP I get bored with very quickly but the one in AC:B made me completely paranoid not knowing who was after me.
I also really liked that you were rewarded for stealth kills while those people who just ran ended up getting more kills but a lot less points. However the time it took me to get into a session was a but annoying.

BC2 is a nice choice but I would have prefered another game over it like SC2 or COD: Black Ops, as I find BC2 not that more innovative to previous creations were as the other 2 (sc2 and Blops) tried something new.

I’m not so sure on this one, Bad Company 2? … really Bad Company 2? … I mean sure it’s a good game, but variety in game play? I don’t know Black Ops would’ve been a definite for me here.

Haven’t played Battlefield: Bad Company 2, thought its was just another shooter, I saw the other day that you can get the game new for R200, after reading this article and some of the comments I think I better pick up a copy

BC2 deserves this hand down, it’s one of those games that just keeps giving. Then when you tell your team mates this is your last map and continue to do so for the next 8 or so

Completely Agree 🙂 BFBC2 is stunning, amazing amounts of fun, extremely console friendly and just never ceases to excite. Every round feels fresh, new and thrilling.
However, SCII MP is less than enjoyable (Battle.net partly to blame) – Halo : Reach offers lag free battles, excellent matchmaking, constantly updated playlists and the ability to mute teenage kids – what more could you want?

I’d have to agree with BFBC2 but for some reason I just can’t stop playing COD:BLOPS even though we are 1RED most of the time. 😉

Starcraft 2 is fun, but also can be incredibly frustrating. It’s not quite as ‘pick-up-and-play’ as BC2.
I’d put Black Ops ahead of BC 2, but then only because BC2 has some *abominable* party issues. We keep trying to play as a big group, only to be split across 4 servers cause only 1 or 2 can connect to servers that others are on :/

Never tried BC2 but I’m enjoying Black Ops a lot at the moment. Feels just like every other COD but still it’s fun.
REALLY bummed I missed out on the RDR multiplayer boat. I heard it was fantastic!

The toughest category of all. I still think Halo:Reach pwns everything because it has jetpacks.
Jetpacks are the latest accessory nowdays in FPS ya’ know 😎

BF:BC2 FTW!!!
LOVE this game.
– The multiplayer classes are well balanced.
– The Maps allow for all classes to enjoy the game.
– Map design is great. A sunken ship in the desert? Hells YEAH!!
– And how can you forget the Frostbite engine? Blow up buildings, morphing terrain… Stunning!
I bought MOH Tier 1 a few weeks ago. The Multiplayer (Despite made by DICE) was very weak! I just finished the single player component and put the disc back into the box.
Put my BF2 Disc in my xbox, loaded Multiplayer and it put a smile on my face

Hang on KoldFU5ION… let me get this straight, you are trying to tell me that Bad Company 2, with its vehicles, vastly different classes, tiered map layouts and different game modes lacked variety next to Call of Duty: Black Ops, which is just a straightforward shooter with some extra modes that’s not even that different from last year’s Call of Duty?
I really can’t agree at all.

Halo Reach all the way, with COD BLOPS a close second.

Bfbc 2 is the winner I agree, but I can’t update so I can’t play anymore, the data usage is far too huge for me to risk the connection freaking out, being left with nothing 🙁
