The Sims 4 to get premium memberships, gameplay video

Want to see what I saw of The Sims 4 at E3? Well, even though the presenters and Sims were different, the highly staged gameplay walkthrough is almost identical to what I saw. However, we do get a glimpse of future features that might not make people too happy.

During the official walkthrough trailer (13:26), we get a glimpse of this screen:

Sims 4 premium

For those who don’t want to squint, the screen says

The Sims 4 Premium. Save on new packs with early access and exclusive items. Become a Premium member to get early access to three new packs, wit exclusive items. Your Sims can throw a spooky costume party, camp in the great outdoors, and toast to the new year in style.

Let’s start by getting the DLC discussion out of the way. First three packs appear to be costume parties, camping and a new year’s party. I wonder how a New Year’s party will differ from a normal party – will we have unique clothes and people getting emo about being alone? Perhaps you can set a countdown clock to make people kiss. It seems a bit silly to me, but obviously I’m missing something when it comes to features.

Speaking of features, the new Sims will have a Premium membership. If it’s anything like the Premium membership we see for Battlefield, this will include all the expansion packs as well as unique aesthetic items. Seeing as there shouldn’t be server queues that will require priority access, perhaps Premium members will have access to a greater gallery of pre-built rooms, or get discounts when purchasing entire collections. Maybe we’ll see Premium members grabbing expansions in advance, celebrating the new year before their friends.

You can check out the full 20 minutes of gameplay walkthrough – is it making you excited? Are you ready to jump into an all new world of Sims 4, or can EA wait to take your money?

There’s a “that’s what she said” joke in there somewhere. But I can’t be bothered to find it.

Yeah I would teat that cat to death, I only adopt from the SPCA as well. Sometimes I think I should volunteer for them, though I would probably strangle fuckers to death who abuses animals

I am with you. I don’t get pets from a pet store. I’d much rather take in a rescue. They are usually the best pets

They already rule the internet. My cat uses my Laptop when I’m at work, she even cracked my password multiple times. I get home and she’s been torrenting Japanese cat ladies the whole day. Honest

      Awww… what an amazing cat.

As for EA they would say they couldn’t supply legs for free because they were working on new ways to kill the cat.

If you read the name EA, the words “DLC” and “PREMIUM” are sure to follow.

Well, they do say “save on new packs” not that the packs are included, which implies that premium gives you a discount when buying them.

It would have been nice if they told us if the “packs” were proper expansion packs that added new gameplay features or if it is simply “stuff” packs, that give you new décor and outfits. I am going to go with Stuff packs… In that case… No.
The funny thing about all this is that the Sims community come up with amazing stuff themselves. Sites like http://www.thesimsresource.com got way cooler user created stuff than the EA so called premium store does.
So what exactly am I getting a premium membership for?

I wouldn’t spend a dime to get a swimming pool, but espresso machines on the other hand. Used to be a basic Sims 2 routine at one point. Sleep 4 hours, get up early and drink espresso until energy levels are high, wet your pants in the process, shower and go to work…

It’ll be neither. It will be a couple of new items and a new party or activity. I suspect it will expand game play but not by nearly as much as an expansion. So instead of generations we can buy a “camping pack” with tents, campfires, ghost stories, “elders pack” with canes, reminiscing and whatever elders do, “teen pack” with driving, pranks. Stuff people will want, that will make the game more fun. Stuff that will be overpriced and very limited in content.

Premium membership? Nah, I’ll pass on that crap.

Half the Sims DLC’s add useless mechanics in that you never use anyway, especially some of those Sims 3 ones *shakes head*

Won’t buy this game for my sister, and won’t buy extra stuff for it if she buys the game herself. I “supported” her Sims 2 and Sims 3 habit, but enough is enough!

I’ll admit to playing Sims 2. Had my family set up with myself and Eliza (as in Eliza Dushku – born on same day) as my wife. Planned my future home as well using that. Got tired of it and didn’t bother with Sims 3 myself.

    1. Unpredictable social interactions.
    2. New font layout (not centered around a variation of Comic Sans).
    3. Modern interface.
