There’s something special about Nintendo’s gaming properties. Nobody but the most deluded and jaded gamer can deny the delightful charm of Mario, Donkey Kong and Kirby or the brilliance of Metroid, the Legend of Zelda and StarFox. Yes, those franchises are perhaps becoming a little worn with overuse of late – but there’s good news. There’s a new Nintendo property coming. Better new? Shigeru Miyamoto’s working on it.
“We hope you’ll look forward to the games to come [for Wii U],” Miyamoto says in an interview in Famitsu, translated by Polygon. “Next spring, with the release of Mario Kart 8, we’ll have a general selection of titles available, so I’ve been thinking it would be a good time to bring out a new franchise.”
“I can’t say too much in detail right now,” Miyamoto coyly replied when asked if it was an all-new franchise, and if he was involved. “but I’ve been pretty busy with this title these days.”
That’s pretty exciting stuff. With Shiggy involved, you can almost be assured that whatever’s coming will be an engaging, great game. Unless it’s another Wii Music, that is.

He said the other day that he doesn’t see the need to create new characters when you can change the core game and innovate on that. I respectfully disagree, but that’s my opinion.

I respectfully disagree along with you too lol …. As nice at that seems, proven slightly with Mario Galaxy, new characters drives innovation and breeds new ideas, More Mario leads to more Mario in a different style
