I love LittleBigPlanet, Media Molecule’s PlayStation exclusive, family-friendly platformer and creative platform. Something I’m terribly guilty of though, is not actually utilising it properly. I don’t mean that I don’t make my own levels – I’m about as creative as a fig when it comes to that sort of thing. No, what I mean is that I very, very seldom look through the billions of user-created levels for hints of genius.
One of the reasons for that, I guess, is that it’s often difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff, the cream from the milk, the men from the boys and whatever other comparative clichés are applicable. That’s changing – and it’s changing today.
Media Molecule has done the legwork itself, and tallied votes on the best user content created, putting together an awards segment to showcase the genuinely talented people who make their own levels using the game’s comprehensive toolset. Watch the 2011 Sackies below. I’m off – RIGHT NOW - to download Interkinetic, by c_mckamey and Fotosynthesis1 – which nabbed the level of the year. It really looks like a damned amazing experience.
And then I’ll probably go play with my own sackies.
