This Just In – Xbox 360 South Africa: Microsoft Names New Distributor

I took a peek into my e-mail inbox this morning to find a rather interesting announcement from Microsoft.

As the title already mentions, Comztek has been appointed by Microsoft as the new distributor of the Xbox 360 in South Africa. Some of you may be confused and would be right for thinking that Comztek was already handling the distribution but it was a little more complex than that.

So what is the major change for all of us? Details and more after the jump.

The truth is that there is no major change. To put it quite simply, Microsoft have said that they are very happy with the way that Comztek handled the temporary distribution since MI Digital closed its’ doors so they have appointed them as the new distributor in South Africa.

Microsoft’s Lance Thorpe had the following to say:

“We are encouraged with the service received so far, addressing our priority of ensuring continuity of supply into the local market. We are confident that Comztek will continue to effectively manage and indeed grow the business of Xbox console, first party software and accessory distribution in South Africa,”

Powercare will still be the service agency and will handle all warranty claims and so on, so like I said before, everything will pretty much stay the same as it is right now.

Consider yourself informed.

I had a talk with the press release, but it only stared back at me (in a creepy way I might add).

We have asked about Live many times, and will continue to do so but you can probably be sure that when MS finally does get Live in SA that they will be shouting it from the rooftops.

I sent my details on my rrod 360 to Mi digital,2 months later, they close before I get my 360.I call up powercare, before I did anything else, they told me,Mi Digital is Powercare, just with a different name, and that my details were still on their systm,so,they fastracked my replacement,3 days later I got it.

From what I can tell Powercare was born out of Mi Digital but as a stand alone company dealing with support issues. However the main Mi Digital did go under and Comztek isn’t linked to them at all.
