Treyarch to Include Mod support for Black Ops

2 min read

PC gamers complained about Modern Warfare 2. A lot. The game shipped without dedicated server support, instead utilising an Xbox Live-esque peer-to-peer matchmaking service. It also locked out modders – people who like to tinker with the game to bend it to their dorky will.

Treyarch will be making up for Infinity Ward’s discretions. not only have they confirmed that Black ops will have dedicated server support, they’ve also said the game will be receiving mod tools post-launch.

"We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch," confirmed Treyarch via the game’s official forum, opening up the possibility of custom maps a-plenty.

"We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game. There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm," added the rep.

"We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch. Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game," he said, before adding finally that Pc users will have access to the dev console.

Good news for PC gamers, I guess. will Black Ops be the Call of duty that wins back the hearts of Pc gamers – or have they moved on to bigger and better things? After the much overhyped and frankly mediocre Modern Warfare 2 i vowed not to get another COD game…but Black Ops looks too damned good to pass up. Let’s hope this is the COD game that allows Treyarch to prove they’re worth their salt.
