Twitch, an online video streaming service populated by the remnant breasts of former YouTube RE:girls and usually filled with videos that echo the satirical product placement of Idiocracy, is getting its own convention. Which you might have gathered from the headline already. Damn headline, always stealing my glory.
During a weekly update on Twitch, Twitch.tv host Marcus “djWHEAT” Graham announced TwitchCon for September 25-26, which will be held at in San Francisco at the Moscone center. According to a press release that was put out shortly afterwards, attendees will be able to meet up with their favourite Twitch personalities, watch live content being streamed and “learn from the community’s thought-leaders.” “Twitch broadcasters have the most passionate fans, so we want to create an amazing experience where they can come together in person,” said Twitch CEO Emmett Shear.
TwitchCon will be an opportunity for the entire community — broadcasters, game developers, viewers, and us — to play and learn together.
Plans are still being drawn up for the event, which now also has a Twitter account that will stream announcements in an old-fashioned text narrative. Twitch is arguably the preferred destination for gamers to get some entertainment these days. It’s pretty much TV for our generation, minus the political propaganda and incessant cellular app adverts. It’s clearly also a platform with ‘personalities’ that I just don’t get, which most likely means that I’m getting old. But taste can’t beat numbers, as the video-streaming service is worth big money these days, covering massive events such as GamesCom and E3.
