US Sales figures 27th of October – Pre 40GB PS3

So the 40GB PS3, which is expected to fly off the shelves, gets released to the US on the 2nd of November. So this is the last week to check sales figures before it hits…

Straight to it….

Hardware
Wii – 144,795 (+16%)
360 – 139,150 (+3%)
PS3 – 43,185 (+61%)

61%…. that’s impressive and remember this is before the expected surge in sales when the 40Gb model lands, has Sony finally turned the corner in the US? Well I think that may be going to far since it was still outsold by a huge margin but it’s an improvement…

On the software side Halo 3 was knocked off it’s perch by that annoyingly popular Wii Sports, but only just (2k units), and Sony finally made a decent showing with Ratchet and Clank coming in at number 4…

As for total software sales

360 – 763,022
Wii –  562,802
PS3 – 330,123

Video Game Chartz – Nintendo – Sony – Microsoft – American Weekly Chart

Any reason for the boost in PS3 sales? Only 3 reasons i can think of:

    1. Price cut for the 60gb (not sure if this even happened)
    2. People want to pick up the 60gb before stock runs out.
    3. Ratchet and Clank (could it have moved consoles?).

    What do you guys think?

What R&C move consoles after I said it wouldn’t!!!! never 😉

Seriously though R&C did sell 90K+ units so it could well have been the reason. The price cut has happened on the 60GB model but I am not sure about your second point…

I think he means some folk still want all the bells and whistles that come with 60GB, but without paying the ” premium ” on the 80GB

Maybe still the best (firmware upgradeable) BR player to buy afterall?

The price of the 80Gb was reduced to $500 last week as well. It includes Motorstorm, so that’s a pretty good incentive to a non BC conscious buyer. That and the launch of Ratchet and Clank I think were the drivers.

Once the 40Gb is out, my money is on a another 360 price cut before the end of the year 😉
