Who's winning the quality war?

In the past few days there have been a lot of articles talking about who has been making the most money and which games has sold the most. The fact is that whichever company ends up with the biggest pot of cash wins, those are the simple rules of running a corporate empire.

However to us as gamers the most important thing is which platform gives us the best gaming experience. Now we could be logical and say that this is more a matter of personal taste than anything but then this article would end here and I need to stick in another 100 words..

So with that logic shoved nicely out of mind we get down to the finer details of finger pointing. When judging the quality of games we don’t really have any choice but to head on over to Metacritic who correlate all the reviews for us.

So without further delay (47 words to go) here are the top 10 highest rated games of 2008

10. Braid (360)
9. Fallout 3 (Xbox 360 & PS3)
8. Gears of War 2 (360)
7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
6. Chrono Trigger (DS)
5. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)
4. Bioshock (PS3)
3. LittleBigPlanet (PS3)
2. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (PS2)
1. Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360 and PS3)

Read  The writing was on the wall in 2003 already for Duke Nukem Forever’s legendary troubled development

So trailing in stone last we have a three way tie between the Wii, DS and PS2. Next we have the 360 coming in with 3 (1+1+1+1 =4 apparently) entries and the console which seems to be the clear winner with 5 out of the top 10 best rated games is the PS3.

Personally I would throw Bioshock out as the 360 version is rated just as well and is therefore a bit misleading. If we did that the Wii would get another entry and would make the charts look slightly more realistic.
