I have said it time and time again and I feel that I am going to be saying it a lot more before the end of this current generation.
The Nintendo Wii is not a fad that is just going to go away, it is a uniquely brilliant console that has it’s place in the war and that place is rightfully on top of the pile.
I remember when the Wii was first released and people mocked it and didn’t expect it to take off, however it completely sold out in its first weekend and has rarely been seen since.
Now in the run up to it’s 3rd Christmas it is once again destroying sales records by shifting over 800 000 units in one week in the US. Not to mention the fact that it is consistently producing top titles that sell gazillions of units.
The Nintendo Wii is the only console that has not had a price cut of any kind since it was released and yet it keeps on selling and selling.
Even if you don’t ‘get’ the Nintendo Wii you have to be amazed at it’s longevity and complete annihilation of all opponents.
The only thing Nintendo may not be overly happy about is that they are still being viewed as second class citizens by the hardcore gamer, but then again if I had billions in the bank I wouldn’t give a damn what some people thought about me.
Anyone care to take any bets on which console is going to be sitting proudly on top of the charts this time next year?
