There is a brand new rumour in town and it’s a doozy.
According to Arstechnica Sony will be releasing their upcoming Patapon 2 for the PSP2 digitally… in a box.
That is to say that you will be able to walk into your local gaming store and pick up a copy of Patapon 2 but when you crack open the box all you are going to find is a manual and a code to download the title.
Now that’s all fair and well but I hope that the price is lower for the digital version and that I am still being offered the choice to buy the UMD if I want it. I am currently PSP-less but when I did have one I never actually connected it up to the net and I would have been pretty ticked if I got home only to find out that I bought myself an empty box.
I’m all for digital downloads but the idea of going to a store to buy a code to download it from the safety of my home is just stupid, I want to either go to the store and buy a game or download it, not both.
As for now though this is purely a rumour and no real details have been announced, possibly they will be releasing it for download at the same time as shipping the UMD’s and stocking retailers with vouchers which offer you a discount on the title.
