DyingLightHouse

Special editions of games keep becoming more lavish, more ostentatious and as a result, more expensive. Oftentimes, they border on the ridiculous. They’ve now quite convincingly jumped the shark. The latest, very limited edition of the physical  edition of Dying Light costs a disconcerting £250,000. At current exchange rates, this extremely limited edition of the game would cost you R 4,442,120. Yes, that’s nearly four and a half million Rand. I think. I’m not good with numbers. It’s available exclusively from the UK’s GAME, and is called My Apocalypse. Why on earth does it cost so much?

For starters, it comes with a house. Yes, an actual house – but not just any house. Rather it’s one that’s been specifically made to be zombie proof. Yes, really. The house in question is “fortified zombie apocalypse-proofed” and will be built to order by UK company Tiger Log Cabins. The house will feature an upper deck, an escape hatch, arsenal storage for weaponry, and a living area with TV, Xbox One, and a banging sound system.

It also comes with Parkour lessons, survival guidance from an expert, and a trip to Poland to meet the game’s developers. Oh, and four copies of the game so you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth.

Here’s what the thing contains:

  • Custom built Dying Light Zombie Home by Tiger Log Cabins
  • Zombie avoidance parkour lessons with Ampisound, the team behind the internet smash Dying Light Parkour POV video
  • Be The Zombie match with devs where you win so you can brag to your friends how “leet” you are
  • Trip to Techland in Wroclaw, Poland, to meet the dev team and party with Steve the Zombie Consultant
  • Your face skinned onto your Night Hunter character model
  • Dying Light branded night vision goggles + adult diapers for the night portions of the game
  • x4 signed Steelbox editions of Dying Light
  • x2 Top of the line Razer Tiamat headphones
  • Human sized Volatile figurine to use as a deterrent on human raiders

That sounds like it’s worth 250 thousand squids to you?

I’m pretty sure HL3 has a better chance of arriving before both of those games…

The same kind of people that would buy a Ferrari Italia 458 maybe? Jokes aside though, yep, that’s the crazy K@K we sit with and man it gets even worse…

Different strokes for different folks my friend, if you have the money (which assuming you worked your ass off for and earned) then go for it. What you consider ridiculous and wasteful, others may find amazing – that 458 Italia especially (yes I do think it is an amazing piece of human creation and worth every penny)

Hehehe, don’t get me wrong, I also love the 458 Italia and believe it’s a marvel of technology combined with passionate Italian zest, even so, it already has a replacement model (which makes having bought one, quite literally, flushing money down the drain), but that being besides the point, where I have a problem is where things are blown out of proportion…. For example, taking the 458 Italia (drool…) when the Ferrari Enzo came out everyone was up in arms about how crazy it looked and how it’s a vehicle for race car drivers and people with too much money with death wishes (which, ironically…), it took a while for everyone to get used to the likes of the vehicle and then it was the best car in the world, ever etc. looking at the 458, it is now merely another supercar, a nice looking one, but not the best supercar money can buy (Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg CCX, McClaren P1…) I suppose what I’m trying to say is that there is a point where someone goes overboard, everyone makes a fuss about it and then eventually we forget and move on(much like pay to win games, come to think of it), but when we look back, whatever looked ridiculous becomes more acceptable as we get used to the crazy…

Makes sense? I’m still not sure….
