Xbox One will not release locally this year

So we’ve just heard that Microsoft is releasing the Xbox One in 21 countries this year and unfortunately we are not one of them.

It’s been confirmed that we are a wave 4 release which means we will definitely not see the Xbox One this year and likely will only be getting it in Q2 of 2014.

This is a massive disappointment for us and yet again more proof that Microsoft does not view the emerging market as key to their future.

We still have to see what Sony has to say but right now I don’t see how Microsoft has any chance of stealing South Africa back from Sony.

Doubtful. The tech involved and mandatory Kinect makes the X1 a bit more expensive I believe.

50 000 Xbox 360s sold in SA in November, if they ignore the smaller markets, and Sony doesn’t, they are being silly.

Well how much of the new “TV” Functionality of the Xbone will work outside of the US / Europe………definitely not gonna be getting all that technological goodness on our side of the world.

That does suck, but, I want my console to be a games console.

EXACTLY !! A samsung smart TV can do most of the hand gestures for controlling your tv……whats the point of buying a console if you can’t play games

Apparently DSTV and Top TV are in discussions with MS to make it all work locally

well we shall see about that. I mean , how long did it take for SA to get a “decent-ish” xbox marketplace ??

I want to hear it from the Sony conference before I will believe it. Microsoft initially said no DRM….look how that turned out. But if its true…..flip I will love Sony long time.

If you look at the Kalahari games section they have a page promoting the PS4. No such page for Xbone. Hint hint. Hopefully this is a good indication that the PS4 will release this year. Fingers crossed!

Hopefully this delay is due to them setting up SA to have local/dedicated servers seeing as the Xbone relies so heavily on Cloud gaming/Computing. And also to update the SA Marketplace to acceptable standards. Or is this just wishful thinking on my part?

I think you are right, considering some of their games will rely on the cloud computing to run the multiplayer.

Well there isn’t another FIFA World Cup happening here again soon so I’d say it’s a resounding “yes”. How can the continent be taken seriously with all our tinpot dictators, bigamist presidents, rampant poverty, violent crime, theiving governments and the worst of the lot, an apathetic and in many cases, complicit populace.

I prefer them not releasing on day one in SA. Let them iron out the problems first and grow the game library first. Anyone who thinks they’re importing will be in for a rude awakening with region locking as well. So if the X1 is your console of choice I suggest you #dealwithit

Wow, serious error on the part of MS. Which is weird considering the PC arm of Microsoft has had a strong local presence for almost 20 years now. I’m not sure how much it’ll help the PS4, but South Africa remembers…
