There is a rumour going around this morning that makes perfect sense.
Apparantely a secret inside source at Microsoft has confirmed that they will drop the price of the Xbox 360 premium by $49 to $299 on the same day that GTA IV is released…
The idea being that a ton of PS2 and Xbox 1 owners are going to be lining up for the new GTA and seeing a “next-gen” console for under $300 will just be to much good to be true.
Will they really do it? I do expect it personally and I just hope that it is felt here so that our Arcade version ends up being under R2000. That should spur some real interest.

I really don’t expect the Arcade to go anywhere.
I know as a gaming nut the lack of harddrive is a huge problem, however the more casual gamers don’t notice it and the price is very appealing.
I do recommend the Arcade to anyone who isn’t a really big gamer but wants to play these new games.

Why buy the arcade, when you can pay R200 for a Telegamestation!

@Abe, because a Telegamestation cannot do full 1080p graphics over HDMI 😉

If the this price reduction filters down to the core/arcade system then Core will really have to get wii pricing in line with elsewhere in the world.

Obviously you haven’t seen Pacman CE in 1080p, you wouldn’t be so glib . . . :p
@ERZ – GTAIV does not require a HDD, don’t you remember all the PS3 fanboys claiming that was the reason for the delay? 😉
As far as the Arcade goes, it’s a great SKU, it has everything you need to play games Xbox 360 games, Retail or Arcade, and unlike the PS3, if you want to upgrade later you simply buy a drive. I reckon it’ll see a $30 cut to $250 to be in line with the Wii. ~ R2300 in SA.

I have seen the rumours about the PS3 price cut but it doesn’t look likely at the moment, They are still losing money. Even if it’s only a bit now

Would be cool if there was a 360 and PS3 for sale on GTAS launch at $299.00
Both companies would benefit.

who cares about the companies, we would seriously benefit 😀

The PS3 price cut and manufacturing cost rumours are dodgy at best. Consider a stand alone, unsubsidised BR player still retails for around $400. Then add Cell, HDD and Wifi….
But then desperate companies sometimes do desperate things 😉
