Year to Date NPD Sales – Which console has the most software sales?

1 min read

Gamasutra have been pouring over the NPD results since January this year and they have come up with the top 5 software sales per console and how many units each of these titles has shipped.

By their own admission the figures are not entirely accurate and are also inclusive of American sales but it’s interesting to see that the console with no games has sold more software than anyone else.

Though to be fair the Wii may have sold the most but only one of it’s top 5 titles is actually from this year with 2 of them being from way back in 2007.

The full combined list is below and click through the link at the bottom for a more indepth discussion of the results and I would just like to point out that putting the combined list together was harder than I anticipated and I am sure someone owes me a beer now or something.

Apologies if the order is not 100% correct, Gamasutra did not release figures for every title just placements.

Tough economic times for gamers. Look at the sales of Halo: Wars and Killzone 2

Your report is highly misleading. The Wii has only a few titles that sell very well, while there is a much broader set of titles for 360 and PS3. So measuring platform software sales by taking only the top five titles is misleading and dishonest. Try comparing the volume of the top 50 titles per platform for a more fair comparison.
