Far Cry 4 is out tomorrow, and I’ll tell you this; it’s really damned good stuff if you’re a fan of sandboxes. Unfortunately, like every other game on the entire planet, it’s got a few issues that necessitate a day one patch. the Pc version, however, has a number of patches in place ready for day one deployment. Before you groan, they do seem to make the PC version more than your average console port, with things like FOV sliders put in place.

I’ve been playing Ubisoft latest open world shooter, and if you like that last one, you’ll love this. There’s a day one patch on the PlayStation 4 version that weighs in at just under 600MB, bringing the version number up to 1.01. Though unlike other Ubisoft open world games, Far Cry 4 didn’t really seem to have any major issues with frame rate or characters falling through the ground.   The PC version gets two patches though, bringing it right up to version 1.2, making it the obviously superior version for Master racers to lord over console-owning peasants.

Here are the patch notes:

  • Stability & Performance
    – Fixed some random crashes on all game modes
  • AI
    – Fixed various edge case animation issues
    – Fixed various edge case detection issues
    – Fixed missing VO for edge case reaction issues
  • Matchmaking, Connectivity & Replication
    – Fixed matchmaking edge case issues
    – Fixed host migration random & edge case issues
    – Fixed join-in-progress edge case issues
    – Fixed various replication issues between host and clients
    – Fixed edge case replication issues with systems
  • Menus and HUD
    – Fixed various edge case menus and pop-up overlap issues
    – Fixed Mission objectives & updates issues
    – Fixed Co-op specific pop-up updates issues
    – Fixed few localization issues (cut-off text, subtitles)
    – Fixed progression displaying 100% too early in progress tab
    – Polished tutorial images
  • Mission Tweaks (Campaign, Co-Op & Side Content)
    – Fixed various low repro walkthrough breaks
  • World & 3D
    – Fixed various texture issues
    – Deleted some rare floating objects
  • Rendering & Graphics Features (PC Only)
  • – Fixed rendering features not available under certain configurations
    – Fixed multi-monitor display issues
    – Fixed multiple visual artifacts; added SLI support
  • Inputs & Controls (PC Only)
    – Fixed mouse cursor and keyboard functionality
  • In-Game map editor
    – Fixed some graphical corruptions
    – Fixed some edge case issue with maps upload

Here are some more verbose patch notes specifically for the PC version:

Far Cry® 4 v1.1.0

  • Fixed crash in IGE.
  • Fixed an issue with incorrect characters in map naming.
  • Fixed screen tearing when performing a handgun takedown.
  • Fixed various controls issues
  • Fixed various Graphic issues
  • Fixed various IGE issues
  • Fixed various localization issues
  • Fixed various Multi-GPU issues
  • Fixed various Multi-Monitor issues
  • Fixed various multiplayer issues
  • Fixed various sound issues
  • Fixed various UI issues
  • Fixed various Uplay Actions issues
  • Fixed various Uplay Rewards issues
  • Saved maps from IGE and Downloaded now can be opened in the Editor from in-game.
  • Skills, Crafting and Progress Menu now cannot be accessed in Arena.
  • The game now boot if the game folder name contains Cyrillic characters.
  • The game now boot on Korean localization.

Far Cry® 4 v1.2.0

  • Added ability to change FOV scaling.
  • Added nVidia GeForce Experience support.
  • Fixed various controls issues
  • Fixed various Graphic issues
  • Fixed various IGE issues
  • Fixed various Multi-GPU issues
  • Fixed various Multi-Monitor issues
  • Fixed various UI issues
  • Playing a map from Map Browser two times now don’t trigger an Error.
  • Skills, Crafting and Progress Menu now cannot be accessed while playing a created map.

On the one hand, patches mean the developer cares about their game and wants it to be a great experience – but on the other, it means that just not enough time went in to quality assurance – and things have probably been rushed out to hit release date.  As a reminder, here’s the Far Cry 4 101 trailer. Are you picking the game up this week? Let us know!

Really? an interesting choice. I have always enjoyed Piano and the Sonata’s and then met my wife, who has actually played piano at the State Theatre, amongst other places, in her younger days AWESOME.

Also, my baby (11 months) can bash piano keys and stuff, where letting her near the Violin, for example, is just not on. (a Jacob Stainer copy made a very, very long time ago)

            November 17, 2014 at 11:32

Man, that’s really awesome! My gf can play a bit of piano, but nothing like State Theatre credentials – you lucky guy 😀

Also, you have an epic violin. I sad face. Jealous. 😛

We bought is for R500 bucks two years ago, spent about R1500 on strings, a new bridge and my wife spent over a week treating the wood right. Took about a month for the sound to suit my wife. Stainer is less rounded, so is a quieter violin than most. Has a slightly different sound as well. Very nice. But my wife plays rarely now, except for Church of course. I cannot remember properly how old it is, but according to the expert we used, was made in Europe a very long time ago. Will ask wife, she will remember. Also is insured for a goodly sum as well, not that it can realistically be replaced, we got lucky after years of searching.

BUT, my child, if she chooses (can they choose?), can start with Piano lessons from two, like my wife did. If she hates it, then she stops. I love letting her sit on my lap, just so we can play the Piano. We need to move the piano back to the Dining Room, so it is always there, currently in a bedroom, after the dining room flooded.

I know right? My issue is that Poobie has been using the exact same game design for completely different IP’s. The AC series, Watch Dogs and even Far Cry all play the exact same way, albeit Far Cry does it in first-person.

    I actually feel for them.

Time to market, must start trying to make the money back. This is what I do for a living. It is tough and we need to make choices, hard ones. As do game developers. I do wonder if,most of the time, the flak they get is well deserved, as there is getting something out to make money and there is insulting your customers with a product that is obviously not ready. (the trick is to fake that last one a best you can)

Completely agree, one of my projects went live too, but with strict timelines and forces pushing from the top, you have to do what you can, at the end of the day we had to patch a fix in later……These things happen and I feel for them too

“market driven”- Man I hate that word. What is expected out of a product never directly correlates to what goes into its development. The last project I worked on I got at least 3 hours sleep a day with weekend work as well. Sometimes, developers just gotta do what they can. But then how does one manage customer expectation again lol I mean, they don’t care that you hardly sleep and your wife is upset with you lol

I also work in a similar environment so I understand what you are talking about, but there is a difference. When my company releases a product to a client it’s up to us to not only ensure there are patches, but to also make sure our customers have it. With games it’s release game, release patch and it’s up to the customer to deal with getting it.

Stakeholder involvement. Very, very important. If I have my way, right from the start. And the customer is most certainly a stakeholder.

I imagine for an Unisoft, so much bigger than what I deal with, it is more challenging.

I got the game on 15. november. I have played it about 9 hours and there was alot of graphical bugs that bodered me. I am really happy that they fix this right way. In the first version there where less bugs than Unity, however the grapical bugs was not good.

If you don’t understand the necessity of day one patches then you really shouldn’t be writing articles about games.

Can’t even get it to load and as the game is being launched through the uplay you’d have thought it would auto patch? and if that’s the case it still isn’t even responding…typical UBIsoft rubbish…AGAIN!

Turn SLI off in the settings and let the cards run separate. I had the same with Borderlands 2 until display drivers got updated.

Thx LC but it still doesn’t work mate, and besides the game “should” RUN in any mode regardless of setting, yes it might be laggy etc but it should run at the very least.

Found the cure! and it’s nothing to do with SLI it’s the plugged in joystick I had…unplugged it and BOOOM sorted.
Working lovely now but very heavy on SLI! Might need optimising me thinks

Great to see there’s been some day one patches and I still can’t fucking get past the first loading screen (as soon as I choose new game) without crashing.

    I’m running with an R9 290X, and an i7 3770k.

I’m super cheesed since it took me 6 hours to download it since my ISP isn’t able to fix the packet loss that the provide me.

Anyway, if anybody has had the same problem, and has found a workaround, let me know. <3

    Sincerely,
A fucking idiot that bought FC4 off of the Uplay store since I thought they pulled FC4 from Steam.

Does anyone know if the second patch is going to be made available, and if so will it auto patch via uplay or is there a way to manually patch it?

The patch download will take longer than to finish the game. You can finish it in 30 minutes apparently.

Can’t even get past the first 30 seconds of gameplay as the door your supposed to go through is bugged. Nice job Ubisoft, another broken title to go along with your Unity one.

I’m Glad Ubi didn’t mess this one up minus having to unplug every controller on my PC so it didn’t have to crash on start up. I have to say every aspect of the game is well polished and very lovable even the psychotic Min you have to love him in all the twisted ways.

Plus it looks so purddie in 1440p on Max Settings.

I see no proof my game has patched and I have Steam – the original Executable shows 1.0.1 – and I see no read me’s or Steam downloads that typically show there’s been a patch. The game runs like shit – and I’m overall pissed I spent the money on this. Shame on me I guess.

Day one patch fixed nothing for a large percentage of PC users. Now we’re told the patch they promised for Friday the 21st will be released “sometime next week”. They refuse to give refunds, censor comments on their website, and basically give PC users the finger. We can’t even play the game or even watch the darn intro.

Does their contract agreement stop me from referring them as “idiots and jerks of the highest order”???
Why are they troubling us, the legal owners with anti piracy shit??

With a great difficulty I just downloaded a 3 GB patched file (Ubi recommends 512 kbps connection, but they’re idiots anyways).

And now, my FOV is screwed and I can’t see stuff clearly….

I know there was a recent news that FC4 users who can’t see shit have pirated the game…
I HAVE NOT PIRATED the game… I can produce the purchase details & invoice… I got the game from Flipkart.

Screw you ubi. After Fzr Cry 3, god knows why I had high expectations…
