So you’re still stuck at the office working some overtime, and you need the perfect distraction for a few minutes? Error City Tourist is just what you need, and it can be played right now in your browser!
All you will need to do is click here. You will be prompted to download the Unity Game plugin, which is a meg or two, then you can get started. Welcome to Error City, population: Batman?
The city that is littered with creepy inhabitants with pointy ears. As you walk around, you will see that they don’t do much, other than roam around aimlessly. They pay you no attention whatsoever, making you feel as insignificant as they are.
The world is procedurally generated, meaning that you can explore further and further, without any real goal. There are also random terminals which display seemingly random messages when read. What the heck is this city even? If the terminals are meant to offer some sort of clue, then I am completely lost. There are also signs pointing to a monorail, which when found, lets you tour the city from a better vantage point. Pull out your newspaper and relax a while, the city has much for you to see!
Once you’re off the monorail, you will realise that there is an oddly hypnotic track accompanying your mindless endeavor, leading you to just want to keep walking, and walking, and walking. The atmosphere is strangely foreboding, leading me to believe that something was going to jump out at me or kill me at some stage. It never did though… it never did.
Although simple in nature, its an interesting game nonetheless. Perhaps its a metaphor for how meaningless our lives are as we go about our daily activities? Maybe its just an alternate reality, where Batman is a helpless citizen, and you, random NPC get to watch him do nothing? YOU BE THE JUDGE!
Its an interesting way to waste a few minutes of your time. What do you think? What the hell is going on in Error City?
