Behold your new meme god, Shaggy’s power

People confusing butterflies for essential life skills. Patrick Star staring ominously at you from a ceiling. That one argument scene from American Chopper that always ends with a chair being thrown for MAXIMUM DRAMA. Great memes, but much like fashion, taste and last night’s leftover, they’re all so 2018.

In the year of 2019, we’ve already seen one meme briefly rise to prominence, in the form of Naruto’s Sasuke having the life choked out of him by everyone from your mom to anime legend Hiyao Miyazaki. A good first start to the pop culture crap-posting nature of the internet, but I think we’ve already found our true breakout star of the year.

Here’s how the meme got started. Over on reddit’s dank memes page, the core of the idea is that people take random moments from the interviews around the 2002 live action Scooby Doo movie,and add new text that details the immeasurable power of Shaggy. Power so dark and great, that it would blow apart entire realities if even a fraction of its might was utilised:

So far, the meme continues to explode, as more examples of Shaggy’s power is discovered. Essentially the Chuck Norris meme contained within the body of a near-useless slacker, the joke kind of explains how Shaggy was able to warp reality itself during those many many chase sequences from ye olde Scooby Doo cartoons. Which also means that Tumblr is currently exploding with Shaggy’s Power art:

Is Shaggy’s Power possibly the most random and dumbest meme of the year so far, which somehow still makes me break out into a giggle every time I see a good one pop up on reddit? You bet your last Scooby snack it is pal. The only, like, real question man, is just how much longevity this meme will have, before it eventually burns out and its remains are scraped out of a bin and utilised by mainstream media in a bleak effort to be hip and trendy. Like, zoinks dude.
