Ubisoft has faith in the Wii U

Faith

With just about every publisher  – most notably, EA – giving up on Nintendo’s Wii U, it’s refreshing to see one of the large-tier ones committing to the platform. Ubisoft seems to understand that it takes time to establish a user base, and the only thing that’ll help that happen quicker is great games.

"As with any new console, it takes some time to grow an established base,” a representative said to GI.Biz. “Ubisoft has a varied and high-quality line-up for Wii U, with more big titles on the way including Rayman Legends, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Splinter Cell Blacklist. We’re confident that this will help in continuing to attract gamers to the Wii U system and that Nintendo will take steps to ensure that the Wii U is successful in the market."

Ubisoft’s also recently said it’s started prototyping ZombiU 2 – which is music to my ears, because I loved the hell out of the first game, and that sort of mature game is exactly what the system needs. Of course, Ubisoft would likely have a little more faith in Nintendo hardware than other publishers; their Just Dance franchise is the best selling 3rd party software on just about every platform it’s available on – and it found its start on the Wii.

Things certainly aren’t looking rosy for the Wii U, but it’s probably not prudent to count the Big N out just yet. What Nintendo essentially needs to do with the Wii U is relaunch it, making consumers more aware of what it actually is and what it does. there’s far too much consumer confusion – with many still convinced that the Wii U is a tablet-based add-on to the original system.

Nintendo will be fine. People are waiting for the big first party titles to come out to buy. There is very little reason to buy yet so no one should be suprised no one is buying.

Sega now Ubi. I smell something fishy over at EA HQ as to why they are turning down the Wii U.

Does anyone else get the impression that lately every time EA has done something dickish, a day or 2 later Ubisoft does the opposite?
