Squadron 42 was due for release in 2016, but seeing as how it has been four years of the goalposts constantly being moved on this topic, the masses are beginning to revolt. There's no shortage of threads on forums complaining about CIG's lack of transparency, which eventually resulted in the studio issuing a response. A response that basically laid out a roadmap…for a roadmap.

Between what’s real, what’s caught up in development limbo and fans debating if the project is worth supporting, one thing is clear: Star Citizen is still raking in a ton of investment cash.

In fact, they’re being downright spicy about the whole thing as the legal tussle between the two companies become more heated.

That hefty sum of cash has been handed out by 2, 448, 842 backers who I’m sure are totally not disappointed in their investments.

Star Citizen isn’t anywhere close to hitting the lightspeed switch and finally crossing the finish line, let alone worthy of its current alpha status as feature creep and too much ambition continues to hobble what could have been the return of the space exploration genre in grand fashion.

It’s now past the halfway point in April and the 3.5 Alpha still hasn’t popped up in Star Citizen. While the original goal was for developer Cloud Imperium to roll out the update to top tier and normal backers, take a break from social publishing for three weeks and crack on with content for the Alpha 3.6 quarterly update, none of that has actually happened.

One game that you probably won’t see released in a complete format this year? Cloud Imperium’s Star Citizen, which is currently still limping towards an unknowable finish line while shedding modules of minor content to appease the few true believers, like some sort of space-leper. What little Star Citizen content is out in the wild, does have one benefit though: It kind of looks visually neat. Even without Nvidia's fancy Ray tracing technology.

Last week it was revealed that Star Citizen’s upcoming Citizencon would charge fans for the privilege of streaming the event, and many were unhappy. It’s not just a case of people on the internet being unhappy about things; previous streams from past events have been free. The response has been particularly vitriolic, with even long-standing Star Citizen fans angered by the $20 access fee. CIG has now backed down.
