In news that shouldn’t surprise anyone but is still bloody depressing, Comic Con Africa 2020 has been called off. The premiere pop culture expo of the South African calendar isn’t totally down and out though!

South Africa may be a country in the doldrums but despite it all, we continually turn out world champions. The latest is JinxKittie Cosplay, who achieved the title of Crown Champion of Cosplay at Chicago convention C2E2 this past weekend.

After a quiet start to 2020, the South African calendar of gaming, comic and pop culture events kicks into gear from March. There are currently over 10 conventions and expos countrywide where you can proudly wave your geek flag. It remains a period of extreme change for the small local scene, though, with even some event casualties.

Taking place literally three days after Comic Con Africa, it was always going to be interesting to see how rAge 2019 fared. Was the expo’s electronic gaming offering distinct enough to draw in its own audience or would attendees’ con fatigue be real? Here’s how things panned out.
