Knockout City by Velan Studios is one of the most mentally-taxing games I've experienced in a while, frantic action that builds on the idea of outwitting your opponent by altering how you throw your ball, curving its path, and taking advantage of a split-second lapse in your opponent's concentration to bonk their face in.

Who takes on all manner of quests with nothing but his own cunning and lethal pieces of sharp metal? Tigtone! Who has bested the prettiest of unicorns by making the fugliest of cloud-dwelling monsters cry tears of pure hideous energy? Tigtone! Who can stab-write about his mighty adventures in a journal? The most literate of Tigtones!

Biomutant juggles a ton of balls at any given time, and while it might not be able to keep all of them in the air, it's still an ambitious open-world adventure that's hard to not fall in love with. Maybe it's coming at the right time as well, as its generally laid-back approach to storytelling, wonderfully silly crafting, and deep character customization more than makes up for the rough combat that could do with some more polish.

Last year's E3 was pretty much a write-off long before the Electronic Software Assosciation announced that the show would not go on in 2020. Extraordinary circumstances and saw E3 skip out on having any presence whatsoever in 2020, but this year things are a little bit different. The ESA has put together an all-digital showcase, one that has a beefy number of names attached to it, ranging from the biggest players in the industry through to smaller but no less important brands.

Deathloop may have a few roguelike inspirations in its design, but at its core it's still a single-player story campaign.

BioWare's finest hour, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a package of passionate remasters and tweaking to create the definitive take on one of the best sci-fi adventures in gaming. I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favourite remaster on the Citadel.

It's still going to be a torturous couple of months before Deathloop releases on PS5 and PC on 14 September. Arkane's latest title looks like a perfect blend of style and substance, one that looks like it'll be a brilliant example of how hard work and experience can pay off. After all, if at first you don't succeed, then die and die again until you do.
