And here…we…go! E3 week has officially kicked off, with an indie showcase from the lovely chaps over at the Guerrilla Collective that focused on smaller games with big hearts. This was just the first part of the showcase though, as part two will take place on June 12. There was no shortage of games and updates on display, with dozens of trailers playing out over the course of a 90-minute show.

I hope you like shoulders with more power than a 1980s lawyer business suit, blood, and skulls, because there's a whole lot of Warhammer on the horizon! Games Workshop and its many developing/publishing partners slapped together a grand ol' showcase for the franchise, which included everything from brand new game reveals through to updates on existing titles and a whole lot more. Frogwares has proven itself to be damn good at piecing together an intriguing story over the years with each new Sherlock Holmes game, and by going back to the start of it all it has a brilliant foundation to work from and build a new mind palace for a new generation of would-be gumshoes.

Knockout City is both easy to pick up and deviously simple in its design, hiding a layer of complexity behind more casual gameplay that fans will discover the more they become invested in it. There's some standard launch-month polishing left to be done still, but Knockout City lands more hits than misses with its high-stakes gameplay and cunning combat, resulting in a multiplayer experience that's both fun and intense at any given moment.

Almost three dozen games, a trip into a bygone era, and plenty of reasons to have a pocket full of coins jangling away as you peruse the offerings. Depending on your fondness for the past, Capcom Arcade Stadium has a divisive collection of charming cult classic titles and time-wasting distractions, but it's all presented in a package that lures you in with bright lights, loud sounds, and plenty of nostalgia.

Come June, it's as if a switch (not that one) is flicked and every game under the sun decides to come out of hibernation. This year's incarnation of Julian and Gregory's sixth month is no different, featuring a healthy mix of indie, middle-budget, and AAA games hitting the scene.

Miitopia still retains its charm as it hops from 3DS to Switch, as well as a decent upgrade in the visual department. It's no 100-hour epic, but it's a cute and quirky little RPG that makes for an adorable distraction when you need to let your brain rest for a bit.
