Whereas awards shows like the MTV Movie Awards hand out prizes for those films that are a big hit with the general public, the Oscars focuses purely on technical craft, popularity and box office numbers be damned. But that's apparently now changing.
A Netflix Original movie’s eligibility to win an Oscar is currently being debated by the Academy
Much like what happened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, Netflix Original movies are now having their recognition at the most prestigious industry awards ceremony, The Oscars, called into question. Academy members are currently debating how, or even if, streaming service productions should be eligible for nomination.
