While they won’t say when we can expect it the rumour mill is looking straight at Christmas 2009, the rumours are also starting up that this time Altair is going to be flunf into the French Revolution some time. FarCry 2 – Reviewed – Xbox 360

By Nick De Bruyne

Being Africans ourselves means that our experience of FarCry 2 was always going to be different to those who have never had the chance to see Africa with their own two eyes.... Be it the sounds of familiar birds in the trees, the sunset over the veld or the banter of the Afrikaans mercenaries in the guard posts, you are going to be amazed at exactly how much detail has been added into this game to make it feel like a true African experience, the environment nearly steals the show entirely.... You will run into two major factions in the game and it will be up to you to play them against each other so that you can complete your objective.... If you get 'killed' in battle and your second best buddy is available, they will come and pull you out of the mess you have made and help you clear out the enemies in the area. FC2_Screen_10.jpg Be warned though, any of your buddies get hurt and you are unable to heal them or choose to put them out of their misery then they can die, for good.... The type of shooter that's weapons feel so solid and the action so intense that it reminds of those good old days when gaming meant nothing but playing FPS games on your PC.... FC2_Screen_21.jpg While I am not a fan of developers relying too much on their tech-wizardy to make a game feel fun, it is the exact reason why FarCry2 is a real treat to any shooter fan.... I realised that I didn't really mind that so many missions were similar, the sheer difference that the locations and environmental differences made meant that every single repetitive mission played out in a completely different way.... On the other hand, the first time you manage to silently take out an entire guard post without attracting any attention or alerting any other soldiers, you will feel a deep sense of pride and accomplishment. I say it again, FarCry2 is a shooter, put into a setting that allows you to play as much as you want and experiment with different ways to accomplish goals.... So if you are looking for a fun shooter that you can pick up and play for a long time to come, here it is.... While the multiplayer is quite a lot of fun and plays fairly similarly to the formula seen in the Call of Duty franchise, it does come across as quite obvious that the single player game was the main focus of the developers.... All of the elements in the map editor are taken straight from the disc, which means that they can be easily shared over Xbox Live and PSN because of their small file size because essentially all that other players will be doing will be downloading the configuration settings and placement info.... Say yes and you will have it in a minute or so and can jump straight in. At the end of the map, you can rate it if you want and then decide to keep it or dump it.... With smooth and stunning visuals, amazing sound and the fact that you will never ever leave the first person view, you really will feel like it is you standing under a tree in the African veld, stinking like something that died a few days prior.

Parrots play EndWar, no kidding…

By Nick De Bruyne

Ok, I don't really know how to explain this one, but it's pretty awesome. The guy in this video has actually trained his parrots to play EndWar by teaching them the commands of the game. While he still needs to give them instructions on what to do, the mere fact that the game still has no problem recognising their commands is pretty amazing to say the least. It looks like the developers of EndWar have really done a great job with the system and as we all know, if they didn't, this entire game would be worth nothing.

Who's bringing in the money for Ubisoft?

By Gavin Mannion

Ubisoft are one of the biggest and most succesful gaming megatrons in the industry and as such it is interesting to see where they are making their money as I think it is a key indicator of where the makers of the Tom Clancy series are going to be focussing their future development. So when they released their latest financials …

Far Cry 2 Dev Diary: Into Africa Part 4

By Nick De Bruyne

I am really enjoying these developer diaries about the Far Cry 2 teams trip to Kenya. It is quite funny to see them running around like a bunch of lost fools, all for the sake of creating a better game. From what we have seen of the game, the trip has definitely paid off in a big way. If you haven't watched the previous episodes, then do yourself a favour and watch them in order. You can find all of them by clicking here.

Lazygamer Exclusive: Far Cry 2 Developers Show No Love for Uwe Boll

By Nick De Bruyne
October 22, 2008
in :  Gaming

Just recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Far Cry 2 developers Creative Director, Clint Hocking and Producer, LP Pharand of Ubisoft Montreal. Now we all know that Uwe Boll has already made a Far Cry movie based on the first game and although it is yet to be released in a country other than Germany, we don't really need to think too hard to realize that it will probably be a stinky pile of donkey dung. Well, that's if Uwe Boll's track record is anything to go by. So what do the Far Cry 2 developers think of Uwe Boll and do they think that the movie may drag their upcoming release down with it? Find out more after the jump in this Lazygamer worldwide exclusive. So my question to the developers was the following: What do you think about the upcoming Far Cry movie and do you think that with Uwe Bolls track record, the movie may damage the refreshed brand that has been created for Far Cry 2. LP Pharand explained to me that the rights to the movie were bought by Uwe Boll's company long before Ubisoft had bought the rights for the game from Crytek, which means that they and Ubisoft actually had nothing do with it. That doesn't mean that it won't hurt the brand though does it. The developers were very confident and stated clearly that they are proud of what they have created with Far Cry 2 and don't think that the movie could negatively affect the sequel, which is very different to the original in terms of locations and story. So are they against the idea of a Far Cry movie, or even possibly a movie for Far Cry 2? LP Pharand, had the following to say: "We aren't against the idea of a Far Cry movie, we are against the idea of Uwe Boll making a Far Cry movie." Ouch! There you have it ladies and gentlemen and I don't blame him for saying that at all. Uwe Boll has terrorized the movie industry for quite some time now and has yet to make a movie that could even be considered anything other than laughable. Check out the trailer for Uwe Boll's Far Cry Movie and see for yourself.
