It’s Tolkien week folks! Yep, this year, and on the 22nd to be exact, marks the 75th anniversary since The Hobbit was first published. And in eight more weeks, Peter Jackson returns with another tale from Middle Earth, based on that book.

Now a trilogy, The Hobbit films are starting to push out some more marketing, starting with an all new batch of character shots of the cast looking all dramatic and whimsical and stuff.

Ring-leader Peter Jackson has also confirmed via his Facebook page that he’ll be debuting a new trailer this week, which will have some all new footage inside of it, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia’s M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!

Can Peter Jackson now set about doing us a Discworld movie?

    • Have you seen the current ones? They are pretty awesome, especially Going Postal.

I saw Hogfather and the first hour or so of Color of MagicLight fantastic. And as much as I hate to admit it, they were a bit crap. Children with false beards doth not a dwarf make. And what is it with Death? It’s some dude in a plastic mask??? Hence I did not hold out much hope for Going Postal…

Wait, step back. Someone made Discworld movies?

        • Yep, quite a few of them. And I’m with Lourens on this one. Yes, their FX might budget might not be the greatest, but they got a lot of the heart and tone of Pratchett’s work down.

          • Wtf101

Are you and I reading the same Pratchett? I never felt like I was watching a Click based on a Pratchett book. I actually felt that Pratchett deserves better than that.
Yes, the story might have been there, but the wit and feel of it? Nope. Not so much.

          • Well that’s of course because you don’t have Pratchett’s humurous descriptions and language on screen with you. It’ll always be a slight against any adaptation, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t get the tone down.

          • Wtf101

You see, I am a die hard Pratchett fan. The man is my favorite author of all time and as a fan I want to see his books get the movie treatment they deserve. And in my mind, his books deserves a Lord of the Rings silver screen spectacle, not the “oh let’s settle for this low budget slapstick affair” that we got.

          • No look, there you have a fair point. I’d love to see Ankh Morpork in all it’s…er… glory, but unfortunately this is what we have and it’s not so bad.

Maybe it’s just coz I’m a big fan of British sci-fi where budget tends to take a backseat, that I don’t mind it as much.
