In amongst the petty fanboy console enmity there exists an aspect of elitism. There are people who spend their lives – for the sake of some sort of internet posturing – trying to prove to everyone else that they’re superior. This console elitism is overshadowed though, by the snobbish elitist attitude of a margin of PC gamers. Justified or not, there will always be that PC gamer who’ll loudly exclaim that the PC version offers higher graphical fidelity, or that mouse and keyboard pwnz0rizes controllers.
These points that they regularly – and sometimes forcefully – bring up in console players’ grills are of course absolutely true. Richard Ham, Brink Developer weighs in on the control issue, saying : “No matter how hard we work on it to make the perfect analogue stick controls – and as an aside we have got really good analogue stick controls – it is a poor man’s mouse at the end of the day.”
He further elaborated :
“Obviously it goes without saying that on consoles it is going to be pegged to the maximum resolution that the consoles can handle,” he said. “Whereas on PC, the sky’s the limit, depending on what your rig is. There is no choice about it.
“I would be laughed out the room if I were to sit here and say ‘yes of course the console games will look just as good as the PC version’. The PC version will always be king because it can always adapt and keep on building if you have got the money.”
While I agree with regards to the graphical superiority of the PC platform – provided you have the right hardware, of course – the one of control is completely subjective. While there is not doubt that a mouse is more accurate, that does not make it the better control option. When I play FPS games on my PC, it feels like I’m playing a high-octane point and click adventure, where the object is to click on enemies. With a controller, I may not have pin-point accuracy but actually pulling on a trigger on my controller offers me a greater sense of immersion.

i couldn’t live without my console loving, but nothing to date has beaten the mouse/keyboard set up!
speed, accuracy and key binding… you can’t ask for more.
anyone who disputes thats probably choose consoles because they couldn’t cut it in the pc arena.
analogue controls are for lazy gamers 😉

I dont know about you guys, but i get a bigger sense of accomplishment if i do a snap head shot with a controller than if i did it with the keyboard/mouse setup. (and i’m a PC gamer)

You do realize that this is the 21st century.
Connecting your pc to your tv is no more work than
connecting your console.
I play my pc games on my tv too…while lying on the
bed

Console gamers don’t watch Star Trek 😉
That fact alone beats everything else.

Sure PC’s offer graphical superiority, but how good can you push the grpahics on MGS4 on the PC?…Oh wait
And yea I agree it takes a far greater level of skill to be good on a controller as opposed to a mouse.

Timesplitters 2 uses analogue control, and I was a better crackshot than I ever was with any PC FPS, no matter how much I practised. You couldn’t turn as fast, but on manual aiming the sheer fluidity and perfection of TS2’s setup made it an absolute joy to play, fluid and natural and oh-so satisfying.
Oh yeah, and then there’s all those sports and action and adventure and beat-em-up and racing and platforming games (you know, that constitute enormous swathes of the console market) that are infinitely better on a control pad than a mouse or keyboard.
So no, fat PC nerd, the analogue stick is not the poor man’s mouse.
