Uplay means something so different depending on whether you play on console or PC. On console, once your Xbox Live and PSN accounts were linked with Ubisoft’s service, it no longer seemed to matter as everything would authenticate and do its thing in the background. On PC, on the the other hand, it was a nightmare of DRM, with many people unable to play games they purchased due to authentication issues. Rejoice, then, PC gamers! Uplay is dead! Oh… there’s just one thing.
Okay, so Uplay isn’t really gone, it’s just “leveled up” into Ubisoft Club. Here is the little trailer to explain the new loyalty program that sounds a lot like the old loyalty program.
According to the Ubisoft Club site, you can login with your Uplay details and then get rewarded by playing your Ubisoft games.
Unlock exclusive benefits such as extra game content, limited edition goodies, or discounts in the shop
Compete with your friends and stand out amongst the crowd
Any Units, XP level and badges already associated with your Uplay account will be transferred over to the Ubisoft Club.
It seems timed to align with the release of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Rainbow Six Siege. Those two titles will probably be Ubisoft’s biggest releases this year, and I suppose they are tired of being associated with the issues of Uplay. By rebranding, they can seemingly start fresh and at least make it so Google doesn’t flood people with results when they search for issues with the loyalty program. It feels like more of the same to me thus far, but let’s see if Ubisoft actually manages to do something fun and worthwhile with the program – I wouldn’t mind getting invited to Betas or grabbing cheap games thanks to my Uplay Ubisoft Club rewards.

It works…sometimes…but why the hell do I have to have TWO DRM clients open if I buy a game on Steam? This and Rockstar’s terrible Social Club are completely unnecessary.

Rockstar isn’t great on pc. Everything they put on pc always feels like a fix, or an afterthought. Plus they used such shoddy sales tactics during the last Steam sale that they would have been better off not putting their games on sale.

You have played the rather excellent GTA V, haven’t you?
Commander JJ of the Normandy

Nope. Not yet. Those sales tactics of theirs on Steam put me off buying it.

Bugger that man. Every company out there tries something and it blows up in their face. GTA V is one game I have payed full price for on release day and I am yet to regret it.

I know. And I really do want it. But they released it over a year later on pc than they did on console and then charged full price for a game that’s old, and are still charging that price for a 2year+ old game.
I just lost respect for Rockstar through it all. So as much as I want to play the game (and I really do) I can’t get myself to support them just yet again.

I understand your frustration… I have the exact same sentiment… When it works it’s ok, but really, two resource sucking DRMs at the same time… Ludicrous…

So now that the consoles have caught up to the concept of always on-line DRM all they did was change the logo.

But I don’t want to compete with my friends and I’d prefer being completely anonymous in the crowd, does that mean I can just skip this altogether? No? Gosh I feel so, what was the word you used Ubi, privileged.

This is exactly the same as Uplay. It’s just a different name. You could always earn Uplay Units, you could always exchange them for in-game or other things (including discount).
Uplay is still very much alive.

A month ago i figured out how to pull my initial five figure paycheck ever!!! I’ve been working for this organization online for a long time now and i never been more satisfied… They are paying me $95/every hour and the best thing is reason i am not that tech-savy, they requested fundamental understading of web and essential writing expertise… It’s been an astounding background working with them and i needed to impart this to you, on the grounds that they are searching for new individuals to join their group now and i profoundly prescribe to everybody to apply… Visit my name address disqus…………………………..mr……..

I have Steam,Origin and Battle.net open and running in the background of my pc permanently. I refuse to have Uplay even installed on my system.
Just as an after though I prefer not having Galaxy on my system as well because it is not functional.

You and me both! Galaxy I don’t mind, because I support CDPR with all my heart and soul, and Witcher 3 is worth having it on alone. But if Ubisoft or EA wants me to start buying their games again, get rid of Uplay/Origin and allow me to buy on Steam or not use a 3rd party client all together.

Origin works and works relatively well. Hell they do certain things better than steam (and certain things worse). Plus a major selling point is that Origin is locally priced so if BF Premium edition pre-order costs me R600 today it stays that price till the November launch regardless of how badly our government screws over the rand.
Also I would have loved to have Witcher on Steam rather. For a company that is all about choice they are rather one sided when it comes to the people who dished out the most money for their game.

I agree Origin isn’t actually to bad, I think I boycott EA more because of the inevitable Season Passes, and necessary DLC they bring with every game. As far as Witcher is concerned, I believe Witcher 3 is on Steam if you purchased it via Steam? I only have it on GoG because of buying the Hardcopy for all the extra goodies and soundtrack.
Kromas untamed
October 20, 2015 at 11:09
Yeah I bought a hardcopy because of the statue. However they should have at least given me the option to register the game on steam. I mailed them about it and their response was pretty much “If you wanted it on steam you should not have bought a CE”
I mean that is a big FU in my opinion.

This is just like when EA tried to distance itself from EA DM by renaming it Origin. Everyone’ll just tie the search results together by making articles just like this one that says, “Ubisoft Club = Uplay”
