‘We clearly have a new franchise’, says Bethesda about Dishonored By Darryn BonthuysPosted on November 28, 20121 min read0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr We haven’t seen a surge in new IPs in 2012, and those that have appeared, haven’t exactly set the world on fire. Despite being pretty damn fantastic, games like Binary Domain and Spec Ops: The Line didn’t perform too well in the profit department. One game that has exceeded all expectations though, is Dishonored, as the success of that title has opened up the doors for the Arkane produced game to hit the sequel highway.“I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it’s new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter”, Bethesda’s Pete Hines said to Destructoid. We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the number one selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas. So, we’re very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane. We clearly have a new franchise. But will Arkane be back to helm a new entry into the Dishonored universe? According to co-director Harvey Smith, he has mixed feelings on whether or not to start work on a sequel, while his cohort Raf Colantonio has mentioned that the team is “open” to such a project. The game has been well received so far, and it’s a no-brainer that a sequel would be welcomed with open arms. But to do so with a team that isn’t too keen on it? I’d rather wait for a sequel that is developed by a more enthusiastic group. Maybe Smith needs a few years off before we can start talking Dishonored 2.
