Something supernatural happened in this first teaser trailer for CARRIE

Hold on to your corn syrup, folks. Here’s that first look teaser trailer for the new Carrie remake that fans at this weekend past’s NYCC got to see. Being a teaser it does exactly that, but it is a rather chilling (or is that warming) introduction to Chloe Moretz as the titular telekinetic.

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, “Carrie” is directed by Kimberly Peirce with a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

While the trailer is scant on the plot details, it sure is heavy on the intriguing imagery. The way that whole town is lit up, tells you right away that this is not the Carrie you know. Well, at least not the Carrie you have watched before. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s script is said to have drawn its inspiration more from Stephen King’s original tale than Brian De Palma’s 1976 film,  and if that burning neighbourhood is in there, then we can probably expect a finale that’s a lot larger in scale and body-count than De Palma’s film.

Still not sold. That said, I forgot how old the original is. My cash says even most of the readers of this site never saw the original.

But is this a reboot or a new stab at adapting the book?

Apparently, they’re going back to the book. But the last time a movie said that, they outright lied. I’m looking at you Total Recall.
