This is a movies world! But without a biopic, it wouldn’t be nothing, nothing at all. Musical autobiographies seem to be part of the new wave of fads hitting Hollywood lately, and while my calls for a new Dewey Cox film will most likely go unanswered, at least the prospect of a movie based on the Godfather of soul himself, makes me want to get up and then get on down, like a writing machine.
Brian “I’ve got an Oscar!” Grazer is looking to produce a film, alongside Rolling Stone Mick Jagger on the sex machine, and have tapped some talent to do so already.
They’ve enlisted Tate “The Help” Taylor to direct, based on a screenplay from Fair Game scribes Jez and John Henry Butterworth, all based on a decades worth of work that Grazer has put into the project.
They’ve got the financing, and now, all they need is the distribution partner, as well as an actor that happens to be virile enough to portray the legendary performer.
I am deeply honoured that Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer, two of my husband James Brown’s favourite people, have entered into a partnership to bring his inspirational story to the big screen.
A James Brown story has all the hallmarks of a stereotypical musical biopic, such as good times, hard times, uppers, downers, drugs, revelations and epiphanies.
But heck, it’s James Brown man! Hunnh! Get on down! Who would you like to see grooving out as the soulful performer in this film?
