Riddick reinforces his love of darkness in the first still from RIDDICK

Everyone’s favourite anti-hero with Rayban sponsorship is back soon, and it seems like (slightly unofficial) marketing train has kicked off with a still from Riddick that has been shared by Mr. Diesel on his official facebook page.

Let’s get right down to business. Take out the still that has been shared:

I have a slight suspicion that we might all need a pair of night-vision goggles for this one. While the still doesn’t say much, it certainly seems that they are going with a more Pitch Black feel than Chronicles of Riddick and that might not be a bad thing. I’m hoping for something in the middle, with Riddick being able to show off his survival instincts in a harsh, barren wasteland while still maintaining a high-concept sci-fi feel like Chronicles.

The Riddick franchise has always been strangely respected – while not all critics agree, fans of the films and even the surprisingly well-constructed video games are quite plentiful and this is because it has always seemed that Riddick has been treated with a touch more attention than some other titles. I’m not quite sure why, but I suspect Mr. Diesel has quite a lot to say when it comes to quality control and I’m all for it. Whatever the winning recipe might be, I’m hoping it gets maintained for the next film as well.

Here’s the synopsis from Comingsoon:

In the film, written and directed by David Twohy, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Shut up and take my money!

At the end of Chronicles of Riddick he ends up on the throne of that religious cult. How does that tie in to this movie??? Quite odd…
