Harrison Ford is in for THE EXPENDABLES 3, Bruce Willis is out

The Expendables is pretty much the retirement home of older action movie stars. The first two films have seen more 1980s nostalgia appear on the big screen than a massive sale on hair scrunchies and leg warmers to the backing track of Duran Duran, as Sly Stallone recruited plenty of stars for his flicks.

Bruce Willis has appeared in two of those films so far, but he won’t be in the third one. Instead, the greatest movie president of all time, Harrison Ford will be showing up for the third film.

With a year to go before the film is officially out, Sly Stallone tweeted the following confirming that Ford will most likely be throwing people out of the Barney Ross plane:

So what does the third film have in store then for viewers? Early rumours pointed towards the gang going up against a younger, fresher cast of anti-Expendables, pitting new blood up against the old. The main crew of Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Randy Couture are all back as the core team, but no word on whether or not Jet Li will return. Which is a shame, because he managed to have his screen time halved in the sequel, and yet still managed to kick double the amount of ass in the process.

The Expendables 3 is out next year August 14, where Ford will most likely shoot first. Expect more casting announcements soon.

  1. Ford is a rather odd choice. He’s starred in some great thrillers, but is he really an action icon?

I have to agree. I’ve never thought of him as an action star like the rest of the Expendables cast.

Especially not the ‘guns blazing’ type. Maybe he’s the bad guy and the Expendables are hired to arrest him. They chase him the whole movie, but at the end he reveals the guy who framed him, starting a massive firefight.

Who hires them though? Tommy Lee Jones? 😀

Well he is Indiana Jones & Han Solo, more adventure than action, but still.

True. It’s just a tad weak that he’d get a role like this based on those credentials.

They should make him the bad guy. Then send the crew after them. He kills them all and ends the trilogy. I think most action fans would accept that outcome 🙂
