Normally, when an actor decides to get behind a camera and direct for once, that forst flick is a drama. Because nothing spell credibility in Hollywood like snot ‘en trane. Keanu Reeves though, is taking a different approach. The man is going to go down in cinematic history as an ass-kicker of note thanks to films like the Matrix trilogy and Point Break.

And for his directorial debut, he’s putting his money where his fist is in Man of Tai Chi.

Set in modern Beijing, “Man of Tai Chi” marks Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut. The film, also starring Reeves, follows the spiritual journey of a young martial artist (played by Tiger Chen) whose unparalleled Tai Chi skills land him in a highly lucrative underworld fight club. As the fights intensify, so does his will to survive.

When this film hits, I’m not predicting a strong-story or emotional rollercoaster. In a movie that reunites Reeves with his Matrix buddies Tiger Hu Chen and Yuen Woo-ping, I’m expecting all manner of kickass. And so far, it looks like this movie will deliver. That, and I dig the idea of Reeves as a villain for once. The film will also feature new camera tracking techniques, which is what really interests me. I believe that alongside his crew, Reeves has enough experience to make this standard polt something special with a few groundbreaking techniques.

I watched the movie a while back from a less than reputable source and I enjoyed it. Reeves was good as the bad guy.
