The DOCTOR WHO Christmas special starts shooting this Sunday

1 min read

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Doctor Who and that one creepy uncle dressed up as Father Christmas that gets your mom to sit on his lap, but the less said about that the better. Doctor Who has been a Christmas staple of mine ever since the BBC started showing a special episode every year from the revived series.

Last year’s The Snowmen was a much better step up from the horrid The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe. And this year the special will be kicking off filming soon for the final appearance of Matt Smith as number 11.

The BBC and Doc Who crew had their first read-through already for the upcoming episode, hyperbolically stating that “Matt was in brilliant form at the read through for this year’s Christmas Special, written by Steven Moffat. In fact, seeing him back in action as the Doctor made us want to fast forward to November to see the eagerly awaited 50th anniversary special!”

Well yeah, nothing out of the ordinary there. Anyway, here’s a pic of Matt holding the script which was once again penned by showrunner Steve Moffat:

Doc Who xmas special

It’s going to be sad to see Smith leave at the end of this year, but I’m looking forward to seeing what Capaldi brings to the show as an older, wiser Doctor who doesn’t have much time left. We’ll have to wait until that series starts though, as reports say that the BBC wants one uninterrupted season of episodes if they can find the cash. So don’t expect to see Capaldi whipping out a sonic screwdriver until the second half of 2014 at least.

Until then though, we’re going to have to wait it out for the November 23 special episode, which celebrates 50 years of Doctor Who. Geronimo!
