You may not have realised it, but since 2005 Pixar has had a film hit cinemas annually. 2014 however, marks the first year that the Disney owned studio will be skipping an entry, as various production issues and the departure of Bob Peterson on The Good Dinosaur have resulted in that film being delayed beyond its release date of this year. Still 2015 sounds like it has one of the more imaginative films in recent years on the way, in a package that will get your emotions running.

From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
I won’t deny that Pixar is an animation powerhouse for a reason, but they’ve had few misses along the way in recent years. Monsters University was a great sequel, make no mistake, but hardly new stuff. And then the less said about Cars 2 and Brave, the better. But Inside Out sounds like a return to form, and with the more than capable Pete Docter on board, something that could be the next Up for the studio. It’ll be out next year on June 19.
