Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige talks AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON – Hulkbuster armor and Ultron unleashed

Avengers sequel, assemble! The Avengers was the superhero movie of 2012, and the stuff of dreams that most fanboys thought would be impossible to bring to the big screen. Still, the movie succeeded, and Disney added a few billion dollars more to their bank accounts. Win win! Expect the sequel to have a few new tricks up its Stark Industry sleeves.

Speaking to Empire (via CBM), director Joss Whedon was his usual vague self:

It’s more epic and in other ways it’s more noirish and suspect and devious and specific,” Whedon teased, before adding: “Ultron…he’s got a touch of the apocalypse in him.

Well that synchs up to earlier reports that Ultron may in fact be the kind of Killer Robot who actually carries out the Los Lobos threat, but to the entire collective ass of humanity. According to Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige, Whedon had been wanting to use Ultron for quite a while already:

Ultron was the villain Joss wanted, from midway through production on the first film, to have serious repercussions for The Avengers. We unveiled a poster here which is nothing but Ultron after Ultron after Ultron clawing at the beginning to defeat all of our Avengers. That’s what a lot of this movie is about.

Of course, the Avengers won’t be tangling with just the Ultron drones in the sequel. It looks like there’ll be some infighting again, with Tony Stark debuting his Hulkbuster armor. “It’s a bespoke suit. The back-up plan in case things go awry,” Feige said with Whedon adding:

The Hulkbuster is from after my time [as a reader], but even I knew what a big deal it was. It makes sense because there’s no one who can really go up against Hulk, but more importantly, those guys are best friends, so what that battle is and what it means is fascinating to me.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron drops next year, and reunites the whole gang.
